Hey there, fellas. Here is my review of Spider-Man 3. To begin this review, I must say this...

WHAT A COMPLETE AND UNDERWHELMING LETDOWN OF A FILM!!

This trilogy had a wonderful start with the first movie, then it skyrocketed to amazingly well-done performances in the second movie, and finally... it goes downhill from there. All of that splendor and wonder... extinguished! While this film does have its good moments of character development, action, and good dialogue, the overall story suffers from too many subplots, incoherent plot holes, and cringeworthy scenes. Tobey Maguire did the best he could with the ridiculous script he was given, but his good acting did not save the movie for me. So, let’s talk about the main things I hated in this movie:

The villains: This movie has three primary antagonists that pose a challenge against our hero. Let’s talk about them one by one. Here we have Sandman:

He was honestly one of the redeeming qualities of this train wreck. He has a backstory and a reasonable motivation of why he was a criminal. His daughter was dying from a disease, and he needed the money to find ways for her to be restored. Although it doesn’t excuse the fact that what he had done was not right, he at least had a heart that was in the right place. So you have a sympathetic villain! He becomes Sandman later on, and battles Spider-Man. Later on again, he fights the Black Spider-Man and loses the fight. Oh no, the water weakens him and apparently kills him. Then he is absent for about halfway through the film until he comes back and teams up with another villain. I really believe he should’ve at least been the secondary antagonist; however, the unnecessary twist that he killed Peter’s Uncle Ben and his sympathetic backstory were too important to be ignored. With that much information from this guy, he would HAVE to be the main villain. What is this movie about? Is it about revenge? Is it about forgiveness? I think that’s what the movie was going for, but with that many villains, you’re mixing too many subplots into one film, and it becomes a jumbled mess as a result.

Oh, and after Peter forgives him, what does he do next? He actually lets Sandman go without giving him any repercussions whatsoever. He should’ve said to him, “I realize that revenge will not bring my uncle back and that it was an accident that he died; I forgive you for what you had done, but you still need to suffer the consequences.” Sandman had to understand that life is filled with disappointments, so if he didn’t have the money to save his daughter he needs to let nature take its course. DEAL WITH IT. That’s life. Besides, we can’t have things go our way all the time. So you’re just gonna let him go, Spidey? So he can cause havoc again?

New Goblin: He should’ve been the official main villain of this movie. There’s one thing I don’t like about him though:

What the hell is wrong with his design?? He looks NOWHERE like a goblin, and that’s the best they could come up with? Ughhh... that nitpick aside, let’s discuss about him. Harry was another saving grace of the movie. We finally see him take action against Peter in a vain attempt to avenge his father’s death. Throughout the trilogy, he’s been harboring a hatred and grudge against Spider-Man ever since his father was killed. After discovering his identity from the last movie, he prepares himself for the task of eliminating him. The fight scenes he had with Peter were good, but there is one issue I have when his butler told him the truth of his father’s death.

When did he discover that he perished from his own glider? He said that he cleaned his wound that very night he died. How did he know that? So this whole time Harry was sulking in sorrow and depression while fostering a hatred and vengeance against Spider-Man, that guy NEVER told him? He didn’t think about telling him sooner? Had he done that much sooner, that vendetta against our hero would’ve never happened!! Later, Harry gets killed by Venom in the same way his father died. Nice parallelism I guess? Now let’s address the elephant in the room:

Venom:

He is the most shoehorned villain I’ve ever seen in a superhero film. We didn’t need him in here... AT ALL. In fact, Sam Raimi didn’t want him in the third installment, but the studio forced him to insert Venom in it. Yeah, he didn’t show up until the climax... unless you want to count Emo Peter as Venom as well but whatever. Anyway, he basically took the whole focus of movie away which basically resulted in the film grinding to a halt because what purpose does he serve for the plot? The only thing Venom did for Peter was make him a bad boy. Especially that... cringe and terrible dance he does in front of the ladies. WHAT?!??

Ughh, he made me cringe from watching him as Emo Peter and just... took the whole enjoyment of the film from me. I can’t believe they had done something like this. Who is the MAIN VILLAIN OF THE MOVIE?!? Sandman?! Harry?! VENOM?! WHO?! And I hate his skinny design also. Thankfully, the Venom movie gave him a much better design as he should have even though he lacks the white spider logo.

Lastly, the soundtrack was great, the story was lackluster, the acting was okay, and J. Jonah Jameson was again spectacular... another saving grace of the film. However, MJ was so annoying in this movie! For example, when Harry forced her to break up with Peter, couldn’t she just warn Peter about his plan and that he was behind it? I know she was threatened with death, but the least she could’ve done was whisper to him about what was really happening. (Groans) :facehoof:

I’m done. Stick with the first two movies and ignore this one. 3/10.
Still, this was a great trilogy to give an amazing Spider-Man, and it’s still memorable to this day. I just wish that this movie was better.

Peace.

Never did like it, either.

I liked it, but due to my age, I didn’t pay much attention (though I did like Venom, no matter what the movie did. Probably because he’s... Venom, and that’s enough for me). I pretty much preferred the scenes where I saw the black suit, or Venom in general.

Are you going to cover Venom after Far From Home, if I may ask? I know it’s far-future material, but considering I loved the movie, I’m intrigued on your final rating.

It’s nice to see you intrigued, my friend, but have patience.
I’ll review Venom soon enough.

In defense of the "New Goblin" look, I don't really think Harry was planning to straight-up take his father's place as the Green Goblin. I think he just used all that tech because he knew it was the only way he'd be any sort of match for Peter's abilities. Style likely wasn't a concern; he was probably going more for functionality.

But that's just me. Personally, I like that look.

Both this and the 2018 Venom movie proves that Sony has no clue about how to accurately portray Venom in a live-action movie.

What was it that you didn’t like about the Venom movie?

Everything besides Tom Hardy

I was reluctant to ever see this movie, but when I did actually give it a gander out of a desire to have my own personal opinion...I found it to be a painful step back from its two awesome predecessors.

The only positives I noted were that of the Sandman and Thomas Haden Church’s performance as the character, and the portrayal of Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. Other than that, though, everything about the film was openly underwhelming. The plot twist and retcon with the Sandman being Uncle Ben’s killer instead of the robber in the first film was openly nonsensical, the music was forgettable, Topher Grace’s portrayal of Eddie Brock and the character himself were irritable, everything!

As far as I’m concerned, “Spider-Man 2” was the real conclusion to Tobey Maguire’s version of the character.

and J. Jonah Jameson was again spectacular... another saving grace of the film.

Honestly, I disagree with you highly on this. J. Jonah Jameson was more of a detractor of the film than a highlight. His only purpose seemed to be to serve as a mere punching bag by the overall story and direction, and J.K. Simmons didn’t seem like he was having as much fun being there in contrast to when he played his character in the last two movies.
