Commentary blog for "I Did Not See That Coming" plus a link to Clopficsinthecomments Blog about the charity drive. · 1:59pm Aug 1st, 2020

I'll get the housekeeping out the way first. Clopficsinthecomments wrote a blog about the charity his Aryanne story was connected with and organized on 4chan. Whatever opinions you had about Aryanne, the event was the largest fundraising success in the history of the fandom and we got an adorable filly mascot out of the deal! There's also a Big Man Tyrone video I will NOT be linking to directly that may or may not go under the name 4chan /mlp/ Charity Event to Piss Off Twitter because of the potential for a site rules violation and more inflamed buttholes from people who can't take a joke.

I found the video funny, even though I harbor suspicions that 4chan has 2016 energy and is still trying to elect Donald Trump for reasons even they can't properly articulate anymore. We're all a little less-based and red-pilled and not such a big fan of trains in 2020.

Anyway, regarding IDNCTC. This story basically burned the site down. It rendered the front page more or less useless for 36 hours as it pulled in thousands of rubberneckers and 4chan alt-accounts, was read by almost no one and created quite possibly the shitpostiest thread in site history. I never did a proper longpost on the story as I was absorbed in the street battle between the forces of Brony Antifa and Brony Kekistan and couldn't look away from the trainwreck. I got a couple of good punches in, managed to avoid getting pepper-sprayed by Knighty and even hit a mod with a brick!

I'm joking of course. No actual violence was committed or encouraged. Please no bully, mods. You know we love ya!

Well after all that chaos, the story's comments section and voting tab were locked down. The votes I agree with locking down, to be honest. No one and I mean no one gave a crap about the story itself, those for or against. A vote on that story was a spit in the eyes of the other guy and not reflective of the quality of the work itself. People in the comments even called the story itself a "shitpost" which... really makes me sad. Cloppy worked really hard on that and I with him! :pinkiesad2: I spent hours fiddling with that thing, bashing ellipses and adding real punctuation, restructuring whole paragraphs and researching obscure German and Nazi references to throw into the sex scenes.

Edit: I didn't like the fact that the comment section got shut down. I wanted the hate-filled rhetoric of the anti-free speech crowd preserved so that no one ever forgets the things they said and the insane levels of "magic missile" LARPing hysterics those people were driven through. I won't ever forget what I saw, even if the mods covered their asses by shutting it down.

I've gotten pretty familiar with the Cloppy clopfiction oeuvre since meeting him and present day and I can tell you that IDNCTC is one of the most fascinating pieces of clopfiction I have ever read and among the best he's written. The sex is genuinely hot. The style is very unique, Cloppy adding tropes from my own writing into his story as a way of making nice and allowing me free reign over the editing process. Combined, we only built on each other's unique strengths — Cloppy's intense narration combined with my eye for alliteration and knowledge of German history making a dynamic duo indeed!

Cloppy was put on this Earth to write a story like that and I equally well-suited to edit for him. We really kicked some serious ass on that thing! :pinkiehappy:

Was the story perfect? Not at all. Time-pressure was the worst I'd experienced since being in school and I put in hours of work on the edit. That story was put together in less than a week. Cloppy went with the angle of opening the story with what amounts to a montage or info-dump right at the onset, written in first-person narration — a style that is not his forte. The man is a brain surgeon when it comes to describing a scene in third-person but having to introduce a new character and his backstory through the character's own head was a challenge for him. I recommended a change from info dump to simply having the characters introduce themselves through slow-drip narration between lines of dialogue but he must have figured there wasn't enough time and just kept going.

In retrospect, he was probably right. The story was completed and submitted to the M-411 pack on the last possible day for submission.

All this is to say the first half of the story does noticeably lag behind the rest of it, though you will find most of my edits there like this one!

. In speaking with another student a little too loudly about my favorite faction to play as in a popular online tank game, I’d made the mistake of pronouncing the word ‘Königstiger’ a bit too accurately while discussing the merits of the Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B with its eighty-eight millimeters of sound and fury.

Was it work? Yes. Did I stress myself out? Yes. Did I have the time of my life doing it? You bet your ass, homeboy! :rainbowlaugh:

And then there was this one...

My somewhat bemused reaction that the Germans had more than a few good ideas when it came to the development of armored fighting vehicles drew me no goodwill at all. ‘So you really are a Nazi sympathizer then! Get out of here, Nazi scum!

Good times. Good times...

My biggest addition was probably the description of her apartment...

My eyes were drawn from the neatly kept kitchen to a large banner dominating the wall in front of her computer desk from which she no doubt had her way with the Soviet Union many times as Fuhrer of the Third Hearts of Iron Reich. featured a black bird atop a symbol I recognized as the German Iron Cross medal decorated with many small crowns on each corner. The cross itself was emblazed with the motto, ‘Gott mit uns 1870’, a reference to the formation of the Second Reich under Otto von Bismarck.

Gott mit uns… I knew that motto very well and it brought back many chilling memories of the horrors of World War Two and the army that had taken this slogan, originally coined by a Swede seeking to reform Christianity in Europe, to justify wholesale slaughter in the name of racial supremacy.

But I didn’t have much time to mull over Aryanne’s motives for hanging the banner there and could at least appreciate the fact she hadn’t gone the completely stereotypical route of hanging a giant swastika to her wall. Maybe she just enjoyed the iconography…

Of course, I wasn't responsible for everything that went into this story. No, no, I don't want to give anyone the wrong impression. This was Cloppy's baby through and through! And he made some executive decisions. Boy did he ever!

Did you know he put earplay in this thing? Yeah... a lot of it! I guess he was inspired by Don't Feed The Bats! :rainbowlaugh:

Her ears, which I had always believed to be one of her cutest features, cupped and morphed, growing longer and fuzzier faster than the rest of her body, a dew-soft fur coating them as they lengthened to elven proportions. I gaped in awe and they continued to lengthen from their base, even broadening slightly as they peaked up perkily over the top of her golden head.

I couldn’t help but grow a few inches myself!

A shudder wracked my body when she lapped the delicate innards of my left ear. Clearly, these pony pinnae were more sensitive than their human equivalents. But Aryanne was a talented ear-smith, the warm wet tip of her probe drawing little circles closer and closer to the cochlear center of my ear.

He didn't go all the way with the concept like I did, but he went far enough to make me smile.

If I've accomplished anything on this site it's inspiring others to experiment with something new. Makes me feel good to see others fighting the good fight!

So is it worth a read based on the merits of the writing alone? I believe it is. Comparing it to his other works, the sex is pretty top shelf and if you can get past the relative dryness of the opening act, you're in for a treat. The humor may be a turn-off for some. Aryanne's accent definitely falls in the category of mad German scientist and doesn't do the story any favors when discussing it as a serious literary work like I'm trying to do. But if you're a fan of edgy humor in the market for a new and interesting piece of fetish fuel, man... have I got a story for you!

Well, my friend... you guys set out to be thought-provoking and make a statement, and you certainly did. I admit I was roundly disgusted by some of the reactions I saw in the comments, but those are times we live in where the label of 'Nazi' gets bounced around more than a beach ball in a concert crowd, slapped on anything and everything at the drop of the hat as a means to smear and silence. It's not that everybody is like that, or even a majority of people, which was shown quite clearly by the overall ratio on the story before they shut off the rankings. It's that those that do are the loudest and unfortunately are in vogue with too many of the powers that be.

I stayed out of it except for upvoting and downvoting individual comments, though I still plan to read the story and offer the author a PM with my own comment. I also struck a couple authors from my reading lists for social justice/anti-free speech idiocy, which I consider in large measure responsible for the horrid state of things out there today. I'm pleased this story did do some good with that outstanding charity work, in the form of a rescued filly, which I consider both a very good deed and a middle finger to the neighsayers on the story. I agree the comments shouldn't have been struck, even if the last couple pages somehow devolved into a debate over veganism. :rainbowhuh: At least the first few pages should have been preserved.

Cancel culture is real, unfortunately, and the main reason I haven't involved myself in debates here lately is I wanted to preserve this place as my escape and pressure release value, which it's been for many years. Wanted to preserve my readership. But if politics are even invading fimfiction to this degree, then I fear for the future of the site. That does not mean I disapprove of posting the story; far from it, especially if it was well-written and had the effect it did. The only story I got particularly political with was my first one--Five Star Service, when I took great pains to dump on the social justice crowd for reasons I can only now call prescient. Especially considering what's happening nowadays where saying the wrong thing or refusing to fly a BLM banner can get you harassed, outright cancelled, or worse.

Folks, writing about Aryanne favorably or even sexually does not make you a Nazi any more than playing to win as the Germans in a WWII strategy game makes you one. Any more than playing as a character in Grand Theft Auto means you're a carjacker, drug dealer, murderer, or any number of other unsavory labels. And those who claim that "free speech doesn't include hate speech" and "Nazis don't have rights" are only saying that so they can ban any speech or opinion they don't like, and label any person they want to cancel or outright attack a Nazi. Instant justification for acting like a true bigot and fascist. I don't recall who said that if fascism returned, it would be under the guise of fighting it, but that's exactly what's happening in this country and elsewhere today. And for it, they're right about one thing--silence is assent to these people getting free rein to tear everything down in the name of anything-but-social-justice. There's more I could say, but I won't.

As for IdnStC... I can't comment on your appraisal of the story since I haven't read it yet, but I will. I promise. And I'll share my comment with you as well as Clopficinthecomments. You guys got serious horse apples writing and posting that story, and I admire you both for it. It was a statement that needed to be made, and I'm very sorry for any hits to your own stories and readership you may have taken in the process. :ajsleepy:

Well said my friend. Well said!

So that's what everyone has been losing their heads over for the past week. No one's given me an answer when I asked. I'm checking out the story right now. It's looking good so far. Turns out you can still comment on individual chapters, at least currently. Just not on the main story page.

Interesting! I wonder why that is? I'm just glad that some evidence remains of what happened. Thanks for correcting my mistake.

Further, there are over 20 pages of comments on the final chapter. I think all the main story comments got moved there. Much popcorn to be had.

I've started checking things out. Goodness, it's just as hilarious and cringe as I remember it! :rainbowlaugh:
