Take a minute to be kind to someone today, even if that someone is you. We all need a little more kindness, giving and receiving.

A Simple Radio · 3:05am Apr 30th, 2020

“Okay Scoot,” Lucca said as she looked over the work done by the small pegasus child, as expected it closely mirrored hers. “Now why does the circuit go in the way it did when it would fit just as well the other way?” It didn't matter to her that Scootaloo didn't live with them, as far as she was concerned the pony was her third daughter.

Scootaloo's interest in taking apart and rebuilding her scooter had come up once while Twilight had been talking to Lucca. And since then Lucca had made it a point to teach her how to build machines, starting with simple and going to more complicated. Scootaloo hadn't taken to the lessons easily, but Lucca eventually found a method that worked. And it was fun to have little projects with someone again.

Sara had drifted to programming years ago and now did projects with Tali. Lucca was proud of her, but missed these activities.

Scootaloo's face twisted slightly as she thought about what Lucca had told her moments before. She knew it was important ... “Because electricity flows from positive to negative and the circuit only works in that direction?”

Lucca smiled warmly at her. “That's right. Now let's take the speaker and connect it to the circuit board over here.” Lucca slowly demonstrated what she was doing.

When it was Scootaloo's turn, she watched patiently. Not to correct her, but to observe. A warmth spread in her chest as she watched the pony carefully solder the wires in place. She always had to hold herself back from grabbing the tool when Scootaloo took it between her hooves. It wasn't designed with ponies in mind but Scootaloo had adapted and maneuvered it with surprising dexterity.

The work done, Lucca let out the breath she had been holding. “Alright, now let's power them on and make sure they work.” She knew already how they would function, but this wasn't for her. She plugged the devices into a power strip and casually flicked the switch.

A mixture of static and excited laughing filled the air as the radios came to life. Eagerly, Scootaloo adjusted the knob until music replaced the crackling noise.

Lucca hugged the tiny pegasus as the music continued. “I knew you could do it.” She said before kissing her cheek.

“I have to show Twilight!” Scootaloo pranced in place, still ecstatic over her accomplishment. “I'll go get her!”

Lucca chuckled at the statement. “It's your radio, you can take it with you if you want.”

Scootaloo was beside herself for actually building something that worked, and Lucca didn't even have to fix any little mistakes. “Thank you!” She shouted.

With a chuckle and a shake of her head Lucca rested her hand on Scootaloo's back. “Thank you, Scootaloo. I had a lot of fun doing this." After a short pause she grinned and gestured over to a large binder filled with designs for devices she had built in the past. "Is there something else you wanted to build?”

Shootaloo squeaked happily as she ran over to the catalog and began flipping through the pages, looking for something cool to build next.

*Adjusts glasses and smirks* I've built robots, and teleporters, repaired machines that were built more than one thousand years after I was born. Invented firearms that combined the latest technology and magic that was lost for millennia. Redesigned a time machine! Trust me, she's in good hands.

Said the mad scientist.

You work on your theories, I'll put them into practice. *Laughter*

*Grins and begins to rush off*

*Grabs her arm and holds her back* No! He destroyed a classroom with a few gems from the Crystal Empire.

Come on. I was only going to use a couple flakes from the Sun Stone.

My point exactly. Just give him the Stardust Bow, Nadia wouldn't want it just sitting in a collection anyway.

Fine.

*Lucca walks off, eventually returning with a polished rosewood and gold crossbow.*

Take care of this, it belonged to a good friend of mine. And while it doesn't need ammo, the bolt of light it shoots can really mess with whatever it hits. If they make it, they won't even be able to tell up from down for a while.
