Jury Summons... CANCELLED! · 6:54am Mar 30th, 2020

Hey, everyone.

So, a little over a month ago, I got a notice in the mail, telling me that I was a potential candidate for jury selection, which was scheduled for the previous Monday. However, due to the circumstances surrounding the global health pandemic (don't know if I'm allowed to say what it is on a public post such as this, but I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about), the courthouse of my county cancelled all proceedings (even releasing detainees who had misdemeanor offense charges :rainbowhuh: WTF?), and as a result, I never had to turn up at the courthouse.

I guess, in a way, I'm kinda relieved that I wouldn't have to sit through an entire day in that courthouse, but at the same time, maybe it could've been kinda interesting to be part of a jury and see how a trial carries out? It probably would've the best case if I were assigned to a high-profile murder case, had I been selected :rainbowlaugh: but, that probably wouldn't have happened. It might've just been a civil trial or something along those lines, if I would've been selected.

Granted, I am a full-time student (we've had to move to online classes for the remainder of the semester, which I kinda like, tbh), they probably would've just let me go if I informed the jury officer or attorneys present of that matter. In any case, if I did go in, I would've been paid to do basically nothing regardless. But, due to the epidemic, of course, all "non-essential" businesses are either closing or shifting to remote work. Fortunately, I work in an essential position, so I am still getting my regular payroll (plus a little extra during this time of crisis, since my firm is funded by the US Government). So, I'm just carrying on with my regular introverted routine as before, and just waiting for all this drama to blow over.

I'm also letting you guys know that I'm doing fine, and so is the rest of my family. We're still able to afford our living expenses, and I'm willing to aid my parents if they find themselves needing some extra money (I pay them a fixed monthly amount to cover a percentage of living expenses and insurance).

But yeah, the very first jury summons I received, and by dumb luck, I was exempt, along with all other potential jurors.
