Brontosaurus is not real!!! · 11:31pm Mar 8th, 2020

Hello everypony! I have been talking to a good friend about that Dinosaur and we both agree that Brontosaurus is not real because during the bone wars, Marsh misidentified an apatasaurus skeleton.

Here is a video explaining it in more detail:

I don't own the video! It belongs to the respective owners!

I suppose the subject of this species has often been debatable, despite some of the findings surrounding this creature. Perhaps the real issue we see is not so much because people are claiming this creature doesn't exist nor whether there was truly an issue, but rather on the condition that there was 'one' flaw with the study of the bones the very designs of this creature was only the beginning to jump start it's popularity. It's no wonder why such an incredible belief suddenly made this creature one of the biggest featured creatures in any Dinosaur related media.

Yeah, the Paleontologists were very competitive with each other and most likely rushed through the process of studying the fossil of this saurpod.

One little problem with that. Brontosaurus is currently considered a legitimate genus.

Brontosaurus; meaning "thunder lizard" from Greek βροντή, brontē "thunder" and σαῦρος, sauros "lizard" is a genus of gigantic quadruped sauropod dinosaurs. Although the type species, B. excelsus, had long been considered a species of the closely related Apatosaurus, researchers proposed in 2015 that Brontosaurus is a genus separate from Apatosaurus and that it contains three species: B. excelsus, B. yahnahpin, and B. parvus.

The relevant study:

Although generally corroborating the results of previous studies, our analysis proposes three major taxonomic changes within Diplodocidae: (1) the resuscitation of Brontosaurus as a distinct genus from Apatosaurus; (2) the discovery of an additional genus within Diplodocinae, herein named Galeamopus and typified by the species G. hayi, which was previously referred to Diplodocus; and (3) the treatment of “Dinheirosaurus” as junior synonym of Supersaurus, creating the new combination Supersaurus lourinhanensis. Other differing interpretations are the inclusion of Amphicoelias altus in Diplodocidae, the recognition of an additional, potentially new species in both Diplodocinae and Apatosaurinae (not named herein), and the referral of the species Eobrontosaurus yahnahpin and Elosaurus parvus to the genus Brontosaurus, as Brontosaurus yahnahpin and Brontosaurus parvus, respectively. Based on the identifications discussed above (Table 5), a combined species-level cladogram was created to summarize our results (Fig. 120). This cladogram represents the most up-to-date species-level taxonomy of Diplodocidae. Outgroup taxa are pruned considerably compared to the trees recovered by the main analyses, in order to increase the intended focus on Diplodocidae.

You are quite right about that.

This debate's been going on for more than a century. If you don't like the current results, wait a decade and they'll probably change it yet again. :raritywink:

As for me, I'm quite happy to see Brontosaurus back! It's my favorite dinosaur, after all.

5216410
Yeah, I understand that. Maybe, they'll discover a new saurpod and name it Brontosaurus. You never know!

I see. Makes Sense

Reminds me of that stranger Mission From Red Dead redemption 2

5216573
You know what i mean?

5216593
Okay. Still, might send you a Video about it later

5216608
Here. In said mission, you collect coordinates of Dino bones all over the map and this is the result

5216755
That woman is carzy as heck! It looks like she just put all the bones together and made a one of hell of a beast! A creature like that probably wouldn't exist.

5216784
Exactly. Your blog reminded me of this

5216787
That Paleontologist person is not right in the head.

5216793
I think there might have been some Paleontologists like that but I don't know.

5216813
Might be. Not that we will ever know
