In-jokes and writing · 4:28am Mar 8th, 2020

Random question: do you ever make your own in-jokes about stories you're writing/have written?

I'm doing that for a few things I'm writing at the moment, and I gotta say it's one of the more enjoyable parts of the process so far.

Anyway, I've caught the writing bug and want to put together my first fic published to this site. I don't think it will be anything special, but I'd like to pop my fanfic writing cherry and just write more in general.

I think I might have thrown a few memes me and my friends enjoyed in "The Thing we do For Love," but I do use running gags sometimes. I was inspired by Emperor's New Groove, and as such, had Anon in that story debate his devil and angel shoulder when he was faced with difficult decisions. Besides the banter between them, the humor also extended to everyone else thinking he was going loony for a moment arguing with himself.

But, if the joke still carries the weight it needs to get a laugh or at least a chuckle, then it's s'all good in my opinion.

Makes sense! That story is still on my "to-read" list btw, purely because the concept alone is interesting.

It's essentially a long running shitpost I come to when I just need to splurge the brain juices. It's not that good, but it has made people laugh, so I guess it serves its purpose.
