Fifty Questions Meme/Trendpost · 7:36am Oct 18th, 2020
Cute Waypoint pic I got from IRUSU_kun!
Hey all,
I'm still a bit of a lurker on this site, but I saw my friend Not Enough Coffee do a 50 Questions blogpost and felt like doing one as well. So without further ado:
1. What is your first name?
I don't share my personal details publicly, as grade school internet etiquette class taught me that doing so was a bad idea. I will let you know, however, that my "primary" internet identity is not "Waypoint". My friends know what it is, and it's for both general online presence and video games , and I've had it ever since I started using the internet regularly.
2. How old are you?
The big 3-0! I turned 30 last Friday (Oct 9), actually. I'm too old to call myself young anymore, but at the same time I'm happy with where I'm at in life.
3. What country are you from?
USA! USA!
4. What do you look like?
I'm 6ft tall, a mix of hispanic and white. My friends claim I'm handsome, so I must be doing something right when it comes to general body stuff.
5. What do you wish you looked like?
I could stand to lose 10-20 pounds. Both to lose a bit of extra gut, and it would just be a good idea to instill healthier habits before doing so becomes harder in later age.
6. How did you come across MLP:FIM?
Like many brony boomers, I found out about the show on 4chan when they were talking about it being surprisingly good. I don't remember the exact circumstances, but I started watching the show through an online streaming site and the rest is history.
7. What is your favorite ship?
I'm not much of a shipper, but there are some shipping dynamics that I def want to see more of. Hell, I may write these.
Shining x Cadance - already married canonically, true. However, I love the idea of them being swingers who are both encouraging of each other to get into some real wild lewd escapades, and also tag team different ponies they both have an interest in. There's some real juicy material there, and only a few stories have really captured that. Beyond that, I like how both of them are outwardly attractive but also dorks in their private life (Shining more obviously so, but I get the vibe that Cadance has a very dorky side that is rarely seen by anyone other than Shining).
Thorax x Ember - The episode "Triple Threat" basically wrote this ship itself. Ember is primarily tough but struggles with expressing her emotions otherwise, and Thorax is a chill dude who needs to work on his assertiveness. It's clear they both complement each other in building up what the other sucks at, and also just seem to like each other in general. I also appreciate that the writers didn't write Thorax as being a complete bitch.
Otherwise, I'm pretty much up to read about any ship as long as it's written well enough.
8. What is your least favorite ship?
Can't really say one way or another. Honestly, whether I like a story's shipping of two characters depends entirely if the author can both make it come together in an interesting way, as well as write their character dynamic in an entertaining way. TLDR: it's all in the execution.
9. Have you ever told anyone outside of the fandom you like MLP?
My friends, naturally. It's a show loved by many, so it's not really a surprise or a secret to state my enjoyment of it.
10. Were they a family member?
Negative. I don't talk to my family about my interests really.
11. Favorite MLP episode?
Hard to say. I certainly have my least favorite, but my favorites? Lemme try and name a few:
- Lesson Zero
- The Last Roundup
- A Canterlot Wedding (both parts)
- Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?
- The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows
- No Second Prances
- 28 Pranks Later
- Triple Threat
- The Parent Map
- Any Pinkie Pie-focused episode
12. Who is your favorite superhero?
To be honest, I'm unsure. I'm not that big on superheros.
13. Favorite anti-hero?
From recent memory: Kazuma Kiryu from Yakuza 0. Dude's a Japanese Mafia guy and solves problems with his fists first, but otherwise has a good heart. He's very straightforward about his actions and behaviors, and that level of honesty is something that I very much admire. Maybe I'm biased because one of the biggest struggles I have is deciphering what people mean when they are not being 100% straightforward about what they mean by what they say/do, but still.
14. Favorite supervillain?
I suppose Mr. Freeze? He causes all sorts of trouble in order to try and save the life of his wife, and it makes him more deep than most supervillains are.
15. Favorite anti-villain?
I'd need to think on that. Any villain who is working towards a genuinely good goal but in bad ways is something I do find at least a bit compelling. It's why I still have a soft spot for Chrysalis: she's always talking about making sure her hive never starves, and fighting for food is something any living being can understand as a good motive.
16. What was the last book you read?
A book on learning Russian for beginners. I never got past the first chapter due to my job being something that can take a lot out of me (and thus decaying my energy for "fun" work like learning a new skill or writing), but I want to go back to it sometime when either work has calmed down, or I take a week off of it.
Honestly I should read more books.
17. What is the last movie you watched?
Doctor Strange. It's a movie my husband wanted to share with me, but all the streaming services were asking for money to watch it (despite having many movies newer than it free to watch if you were subscribed to their service). We finally found a "watch a movie free" deal, and managed to do so.
It was alright, but it had all the quirks that make me dislike modern Marvel movies. Overreliance on "this is an awkward situation" style gags for humorous moments, insufficient worldbuilding on their (admittedly awesome) ideas for supernatural things (in this case, the Magic system), and poor pacing that made the final battle feel insufficient.
I will praise it for many things though: the effects and core ideas of the magic system are fantastic, Benedict Cumberbatch can act, some of the fight scenes were cool and nicely thought out, and the core ideas of the character arc made a good amount of sense. Oh also: "Dormammu, I've come to bargain!"
18. Favorite song at the moment?
I admit I kinda suck with music. I enjoy it, but I have trouble finding stuff I really like. Over the last year or so, I've discovered that I really like "high energy" songs. They put a pep in my step and when done well, the flow feels great.
The other kind of songs I'm liking a lot (especially when I'm unhappy) are melancholy songs that have good energy to them. The kind of songs that seem happy at first, until you look at the lyrics. Note: I'm excluding MLP fanmusic, remixes, and video game music for now (except for one). Maybe I'll do a separate blog on them later.
Here's some examples of energetic melancholy songs I like.
Here's some other notable songs from my song playlist on Youtube.
19. What song do you always come back to?
As someone who basically NEEDS to do things habitually, I come back to the songs I like currently a lot of times. I only really stop listening to them after a double/triple-digit amount of times relistening to them.
20. What is your current job?
Without risking my privacy too much, I work at a small company that does Data Warehousing contracting to client. What this means is that we help a client take a huge amount of raw data they have stored (usually in excel files, but can be in just about any text format), load it into a database solution, and help create reports to easily analyze the data for the client's needs.
I'm very fortunate I have it. It's my first job that I got that's related to my degree, and my boss essentially was taking a chance with me. I think that I'm a chance that has paid off, since I work hard and have been with them for a few years now. And generally, it seems like people are happy with me and my work.
21. What job do you want in the future?
Honestly? I just wanted a job that lets me pay the bills, save up for the future, and have a bit of money to throw around for fun. My current job mostly satisfies those things, so I'm happy with it. If I have to find another job for any reason, those three criteria above will still apply.
22. Dream Job?
See responses to 20 and 21.
23. At this moment what are your greatest achievements?
After almost a decade, I've accomplished some major life goals that I've been gunning for since I started college. Those goals are:
- Graduate college with my desired degree
- Find a job that will pay me a livable wage
- Move out of my parents'
- Marry my boyfriend
I have a few other goals I want to work towards, now that my primary life ones are satisfied. Those are:
- Do a creative hobby regularly and habitually (ideally, writing)
- Contribute the maximum towards retirement every year
- Eventually, get a house
The first is going to be the hardest for me, as I struggle immensely with anything creative for a lot of reasons. But that's the subject of another blog.
24. At this moment what is your greatest failure?
Haha, okay, I guess I can talk about what I just said above.
I fucking suck ass at being creative. It's because I'm someone who gets inspired in the moment, when something triggers my idea-making part of my brain. This usually comes from conversation (the best one), sometimes other creative work, music, or something else. But starting it is always the most difficult.
Firstly, I have MAJOR Blank-Canvas Syndrome. Unlike other people, when given infinite possibilities, I'm fucking overwhelmed and can't easily make a decision towards one of them. It's like having spending money: if you have many potential options to spend your money on something fun, solidifying what that money is for by choosing one option feels like you're throwing all the other options out for good. It constantly makes me second-guess myself, like "am I SURE this is what will really make me happy for what I'm spending on it?" Writing is the same way: when I have a ton of ways I can take a story idea, I'm paralyzed and feel like the first idea I come up with sucks and shouldn't be taken.
Ironically, this problem disappears when I have something already down on paper. When I HAVE to stick with working with what I already have solidified, I find it actually inspires me for what I write for that story in the future. I guess I can summarize by saying that the more limitations I have, the more inspired I am and sure of myself on what I write. The key is to find the way to mentally box myself in and create those limitations so I can actually make something.
I have a few other blockades into being creative (my work taking a LOT of mental energy to do thus reducing how much of it I have after work, my anxieties about creativity due to my many failures to finish creative stuff in the past, etc), but what I said above easily counts as one of my biggest failures, creatively.
Whew, halfway through the questions! If you've read this far, here's a cute Waypoint drawing I got from Rockin Candies!
25. Do you have any pets?
I did when I lived with my parents, but not currently. My husband and I grew up with dogs, and while we both love dogs we also really love the sound of silence thanks to a lack of dogs in the house.
26. What is your dream pet?
Not sure yet. Probably a dog, if I decide to ever have a pet again.
27. Do you have any weapons?
Not currently, but I have looked into gun ownership. It's something I need to do more research into.
28. Is there a gun you really want?
Honestly, anything that really works and won't jam in a life-threatening situation is good for me. I'm pretty partial to the Five-SeveN though, maybe due to Counter-Strike being such a formative part of my teenage years.
29. What religion are you?
I grew up Catholic, and my mom is working very hard to get me to be Evangelical Christian like her (and the rest of the family seem to be). It's something I need to figure out for myself, so I'll leave this question as "undetermined".
30. If you could hang out with one person in history, who would it be?
Man, good question. I'm not a big history buff so I can't really say.
31. If you could bring one person back from the dead, who would it be?
Damn, that's one I would have to do a long think about. Do a lot of research to see who would be most beneficial to bring back, too.
32. Are you political?
Ho boy. I'm pretty moderate, but my views on various issues are ones I keep tight to the chest. Only my close friends will hear how I feel about them.
33. Are you married?
Yep! Last year I got married to my boyfriend of 10-something years, and happily so. We live together now, and it's all we ever wanted.
34. Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?
See question 33.
35. Do you have a crush on anyone?
See question 33.
36. Care to explain?
Pushy one, aren't you questionnaire?
Not really more to explain that what I said above, though.
37. Do you consider yourself attractive?
Reasonably so, yeah. I generally like myself and don't feel bad about my body currently, other than perhaps feeling like I should try and lose a few pounds eventually. My friends and husband complement me for looking handsome, so I must be doing something right.
38. If you could spend a day with someone alive, who would it be?
Good question. I don't have a good answer at the moment.
39. Who is your favorite pony?
I could write a short story to answer this question. I'll try to keep my answer contained though, as this blog post is getting very long already. My top 3 are:
- Pinkie Pie: Her optimism, strong extroverted energy, general happy demeanor, and goofball attitude all very much appeal to me. I both can relate a bit, and also find those things admirable. Plus again, I take that behavior as very honest too. Lastly, she has shown that she's quite perceptive: her seemingly random behavior has purpose, sometimes predicting a need for something long before it is needed or otherwise warning of long-off danger. I'm hardly a party person, but I absolutely would enjoy going to one of her parties.
- Starlight Glimmer: Maybe a weird choice, but hear me out. I think the biggest things I like about her are that 1) she is much more down to earth and "street smart" than most of the Mane 6 (maybe save Applejack), and she also tends to make friends with the social outcasts (Trixie, Discord, etc). As someone who tends to make friends and enjoy the company of people who typically are misfits in their social group, I can relate a lot. Plus, having a pony with a certain level of world experience is quite refreshing compared to the naive optimism of the other main characters (even if said optimism is pretty nice generally).
- Applejack: No surprise, considering how much I talk about honesty in this blog. As I got older, I started respecting her honest and straightforward attitude and her work ethic. She's the kind of pony where a lot of cool ideas have been done for her in Fanfics too, which I really like.
40. Any embarrassing secrets you'd like to share?
To be honest I can't really think of any off the cuff. My close friends would likely know what they are.
41. If you have done any stories or art, what is your favorite piece?
I've only submitted one story to this site, but I'm pretty damn proud of it. It's done a good job of executing on an idea for backstory of my primary pony OC, and it gets me wanting to write more about him. I really should do that soon.
42. Are you a virgin?
🤔 (answer is no lol)
43. What is the craziest thing you've done in your life?
Honestly I'm not much of a risk taker IRL. I'm overly cautious if anything. I'll need to come back to you on this question.
44. Favorite TV show besides MLP?
To be honest, I can't think of one. I barely watch TV or TV series', and most have paled in comparison to MLP for me.
45. Do you have a fetish of any kind?
Oh god. I have a fair bit of them, although they generally share the theme of "I like making people feel really good".
Well, one easy one is anything butt-related. I'm 1000% an ass man, whether that be human, anthro, or pone ass. Ass is life.
Any other kinks...well, maybe I should write a story involving them.
46. Do you regret saying this fetish?
Hahaha, no. I got no shame when talking about myself on the internet, and I'm generally confident in how I express myself.
47. What are some of your favorite MLP stories?
I'm actually newer to this site (timed with me having been AWOL from the fandom for a few years and diving right back into it after the finale hit), but I've amassed a few pretty nice stories. These are pulled from my favorites, and I enjoyed them a lot:

I probably have plenty more I can add to this list, but I'll start with these ones that I like.
48. Favorite quote?
I don't think I really have one. I'll steal Coffee's quote though because I think it's good though.
“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.” ― Marcus Aurelius
49. Did you ever hurt someone's feelings just to hurt them?
Not that I can recall, no. Doing such a thing is anathema to how I am as a person. Even if someone made me feel absolutely fucking miserable, I don't think I could do it. I would just avoid the person, cut them out of my life, or calmly explain why what they are doing is wrong (if I had hope that doing so would change things for the better).
50. Did you answer all these questions honestly?
Yes, and to the best of my ability. I always try to be straightforward and honest as much as I can.
Whew, got through all of these! Took me longer than I thought, but I enjoyed answering them. I hope you enjoyed reading my answers too.
Verbose. I rather like that. I sometimes struggle with explaining myself in detail, as I tend to be concise with my word choice. I guess cautious would be the word for it.
One thing that we totally are the same about is being straightforward and honest. It's a big pet peeve of mine when someone beats around the Bush all day long.
I would also like to add that I also really enjoy Starlight, and found her the most entertaining character of the latter seasons. She felt the most compelling.

It's funny, being verbose is something I can do once I am prompted and get started, but it's never something I can summon at will. Basically I can snowball, but the building of the initial snowball and moving it down the proverbial hill is the hardest part.
Thanks for giving this a read btw! It felt nice to talk about all this stuff, as I rarely ever talk about myself.

I know the feeling, and while I withheld on quite a few questions, I rarely open up on the site. Was a fun exercise.
