Brainstorming for "The Maker" (Spoilers!) · 7:17am Nov 17th, 2012
I've been going over my mental outline for "The Maker" and I have a general idea of how this will all proceed. I've even played it out in my mind a few times and I think it's rather good. However, some of the finer details remain up in the air. I want to have all my bases covered and make the whole scenario as believable as possible. That's when I had this thought: This site has some wonderful talent and some great thinkers. Why not ask some questions?
So, here's the deal: I'd like to propose a few scenarios to you. I've tried to make them as general as possible while still adhering to what I intend to happen in the story. Read them over and, if you so desire, leave your thoughts in the comments or in a personal message to me. This will help me get a broader picture of what people would do in these situations. Also, if you have specific people or characters in mind for these scenarios, tell me why you think they would fit.
First scenario: You are an animator for a show that, while intended for a young female audience, has gained a huge following across all ages and both genders. You sit down at your computer to begin animating a scene. When you pull up the software, you find something already playing out; something you didn't make. The character on screen comes to attention, shouts for joy, then shoots off screen, all without your mouse/stylus moving at all. You realize that the show you've been animating for has taken on a life of it's own and that your animating software has become, essentially, a one way window on that world. What thoughts and emotions run through your head? What do you do first?
How would you contact this world, assuming you can use your animation and programing software to create things and drop them into this world?
Second scenario: You are the creator of the aforementioned show. One of your animators calls you and the rest of the senior production staff into his office and shows you what he's discovered; that the world you created has taken on it's own life. What's more, the animator has already made contact with that world through artistic ingenuity. What is your initial reaction? What is the first thing you do? If given the chance to contact the characters you made, what would you say and how would you explain yourself?
Third scenario: You are (Insert name of a Mane Six Pony or a Equestrian Princess here) and you've suddenly discovered that you and your world are the product of someone else's imagination, but that it has taken on it's own life independent of what the maker's will. You are currently talking to your world's maker through a dimensional communication device of some kind that she and her helpers have placed into your world. What are your thoughts? What are your actions? What questions do you ask?
As I said, I've already thought through my own scenario, but I want to get some fresh ideas and perhaps iron out some kinks in my plot devices. I'll keep writing, but your input is much appreciated.
