The Rise of Skywalker Celebratory Post · 3:51am Dec 29th, 2019

Spoilers ahead. You have been warned.

BENDEMPTION! BENDEMPTION! YES! :pinkiehappy: Oh no, he’s dead. :fluttercry: Yeah, as sad as it is, I kinda saw it coming. :ajsleepy: I mean, the three main heroes of the original trilogy died just to redeem him, and on top of that, those three were the only people with the needed authority to smoothly transition him back to the light after the end of the war. If he had lived, Disney was going to need a whole other movie chronicling him pulling a Jean Valjean if you get the reference. This movie’s best option for giving us closure on Ben Solo’s arc is to have him die the good person his family believed he was deep down. I’m honestly just happy that Han’s death did more than just torment Ben with guilt for the rest of his pathetic life.

The next thing I want to talk about is for my shipper friends (I’m looking at you, Foxhelm and Ro994), the Reylo kiss. I’ll be honest with you; I didn’t really care for it because I’m honestly neutral about the ship. Yeah, in my previous posts mentioning Star Wars, I think I made it clear that I have almost no sympathy for the guy despite wanting him to be redeemed. I think my lack of sympathy for him contributed to my discomfort in shipping him with anybody. At the same time, I’m willing to let that kiss slide. It was probably the first and last time the poor guy got to know what it was like to be loved by a woman who wasn’t his mother. On a tangential note, the interaction between Rey and Ben was eerily similar to that of a certain ship in Banshee531’s Power Rangers story. Foxhelm, I’m a little embarrassed to admit it, but you were on to something comparing that ship to Reylo.

As you can probably tell from the title, I enjoyed the movie. I mean, sure, if you thought a little too hard, you’d find a whole bunch of plot holes, and on top of that, the movie was full of fanservice, but none of that took away from the enjoyment of this movie. More importantly, this movie gives the trilogy the closure that it needs. I will admit that I preferred Rey’s backstory of having come from completely unremarkable origins in The Last Jedi, but at the same time, the light!Rey vs. dark!Rey conflict wouldn’t make much sense unless she had some pre-existing link to the Dark Side, so I understand why her backstory had to be “revised.”

I know the sequels are a bit of a controversial topic for the more hardcore Star Wars nerds, but I’m satisfied with this movie, and no one is going to change my mind.

I'm so glad that at least he was redeemed. Before they killed him off. :facehoof:

Wait... which of Banshee's ships are you talking about... Havoc and Sunset?
As for the Reylo... I was never committed to the ship, but I was never gonna sink it
Haven't seen it yet... too much going on last Dec and January... still want to see it, just to experience it.
