Where have I been. I could attempt some yarn about how I was circling the drain or something overly dramatic full of the type of pseudo symbolism that the going through puberty set thinks is edgy and dark. In reality it's a lot of navel gazing and thinking you understand something more than you actually do or being overly disappointed when things don't work out because of a lack of experience,

My Little Pony: A New Generation (2021)

There is or was a debate that carried on after the end of the series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic that centered around the leadership of Twilight Sparkle. This debate came up when the general plot of the movie I will be reviewing became public knowledge. The backstory of the movie is that somehow magic was lost, the three types of ponies were no longer able to get along and because of

    Lady in White (1988)

Maybe it's just me but, at a certain point one must consider their lunch or dinner choices before heading into traffic. You see, traffic is a cruel mistress. It slows up, bogs down and in pretty much any other way it can will make your life difficult. Add into it a sizeable Mexican meal and it becomes the slowest most arduous race against the devil to get home and not ruin your pants.

    Galaxy of Terror (1981)

Pony Tale Adventures has been put out to pasture at the C&D ranch. It was a bit disappointing. The art assets, sound, and general introductory scenario were charming (at least on the safe for work version). It's a shame that we will never see the title make it to fruition. That said the end result wasn't a complete surprise.

    Lake Mungo (2008)

So, where have I been. I mean honestly this has been the first time I've submitted anything since July of last year. The truth is I've really been absolutely nowhere. I've weaved my way through the many days avoiding angry crowds of one stripe or another. I've paid my bills mostly on time if not for the laziness of the local parcel services I'd be on time. I've worked at my job and one foot

The Lighthouse (2019) · 7:50am Dec 20th, 2019

Is it just me or should they have not reformed Diamond Tiara? I know it's something that was done awhile ago but when you look at Cozy Glow it's really just Diamond Tiara who's playing a bit more of the long game. I think it would have worked out better.

Think about it, instead of having the Cutie Mark Crusaders reform Diamond Tiara and then get their marks what if they reformed Silver Spoon? She was rich and bratty too but the leader of the pair was DT. It could be that maybe one day DT goes too far with Silver Spoon and the CMC's help her pick up the pieces. You could then have Silver Spoon stand up for herself (to some degree) and thus DT is somewhat alienated.

This leads to her stewing and maybe on occasion acting out until Twilight opens that friendship school and Diamond Tiara's parents decide she needs to go there. I mean if anybody could set her on the correct path it would be Twilight and her friends... right?

Things could play out similarly but with Diamond Tiara having more clear resources to make things happen. It's a thought anyway. I mean it's better than the fact that she was abandoned as a character after her reformation. Just a thought.

Speaking of being abandoned there were many times in the history of lighthouse keeping where those who were entrusted to man said beacon were more or less abandoned by those who hired them. Sometimes lighthouse companies would go out of business and not bother to tell those working at the lighthouse what was up. Sometimes an emergency would happen and nobody would get there for weeks. You might not even get paid for your work there even if the company were still in business. It was a thankless job to be sure.

The 2019 movie The Lighthouse is a film about two lighthouse keepers or wickies (Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe) who are sent to keep things running smoothly. This of course doesn't happen and as things begin to unravel and various bits of weirdness continue to happen the pair continue to dive deeper and deeper into the depths of madness. Admittedly one may have gotten there well before the other.

The movie is loosely inspired by the Smalls Lighthouse Tragedy and pulls from varying bits of mythology and nautical tales. If you can pick up on them it actually makes the movie a little more accessible. That's not to say you need to be a brainiac to figure this stuff out but it can help and you might get a kick out of the references.

The Lighthouse is beautifully shot and the acting between Pattinson and Dafoe is strong. While one might remember Dafoe's performance long after the movie Pattinson does deserve credit as well as a man with a past that continues to haunt him. He has the unenviable role of more or less playing the straight man to Dafoe's more eccentric character.

Now having said that I can honestly say that this is one of those movies that isn't for everyone. This is one of those movies that can get artsy on you pretty quick and if you're not up for it you're probably going to get bored or at least impatient with it. I'd also note that the movie isn't really a scary movie. It's dark and there is madness but if it's a horror movie it's one in the more classical sense which tend to be more of the dark drama variety.

Ultimately, for me this is the kind of film I wish we saw come out a bit more. I'm not saying something that's super artsy but something that requires more active attention from the audience. It's worth watching at least once if you're up for it.

The Stats:

4 dead bodies
6 Breasts
Several dead birds
1 Mermaid Vagina
2 scenes of Pattinson flogging his bait
1 sighting of the beast with two backs
Male Nudity
Axe to the head
1 severed head
1 tumble down the stairs
1 smashed seagull
gratuitous drunken dancing
Axe fu
Light fu
Tentacle fu

Shout outs:

Willem Dafoe as Thomas Wake for his super intense monologue and being out to sea while on land. If you take my meaning

Robert Pattinson as Ephraim Winslow who is a man with a complicated past who may not be all there either.

Have to admit the trailer looks very intriguing.

It is a really good trailer. Probably one of the better ones I've seen in awhile.

I really want to see this. It seems very Cthulhu-esque.

Hmm, despite my initial aversion to the Pattinson, this sounds decently interesting. Though it also sounds as if there are some randy mermaids? Talk about typecasting. :rainbowwild:

He certainly does have an affinity for them doesn't he? The Lighthouse probably the best acting job he's done. Although I did enjoy Water for Elephants too. I at least give the guy credit for trying a variety of roles. To be fair though ... nobody could have made the Twilight movies any good.
