I wasn't planning on making another blog post so soon, but something came up today that's encouraged me to try out an idea.
Unrelated to the site, the fandom and ponies in general, I was approached by someone in one of my writing circles who wanted to know if they could commission me for a piece of original fiction. I've kind of put that on hold at the moment, because I'm not particularly confident in my ability to deliver a piece of prose based on someone else's preferences and concept/plot. Part of that is around whether I could sustain enough interest and motivation, but the part is whether I could meet expectation.
But it is something that now intrigues me. I've often been left surprised by the negativity I see towards those who offer fiction services for money, especially when compared to those who offer artistic services.
So what I thought I'd do is try my hand at it first. See if it works in theory for both me and the person requesting.
I'm going to offer up one commission slot, with some heavy caveats in terms of genre and length and content, because baby steps, right? Anyway, you still get a free story out of it, so stop grumbling at the back! 
It's only going to be one slot on this occasion, because if I get overwhelmed (and it doesn't take much for me to feel overwhelmed at the moment) then it'll no doubt impact on my ability to deliver, well, anything. But as it's only one slot, I'm also not going to make it first come first serve. I'll randomly select a request, probably towards the end of next week.
So, the caveats. I'm not going to hide behind the fact I'm making this extremely narrow, but as an experience it needs to benefit me first. I want to get a sense of writing someone else's idea, but I still want to do that within a comfort zone of sorts. Therefore:
- The story will be no longer than 5,000 words
- The story will be either romance, drama or SoL in genre.
- Ideally two central characters, due to the maximum length, but I'm happy to discuss and be flexible on that one.
- Characters from the show/comics only.
- No crossovers.
- I'm not currently feeling inclined to indulge in any M-rated shenanigans.
- This is a practice run for me, and a freebie for you. So be nice. And patient.
I appreciate that might sound limiting, but learning in a safe and comfortable environment is important, and I'm presuming you're following me because you like the type of things I normally write. If I do this again I might broaden things somewhat.
If you want to take me up on the offer then drop me a comment below, or a PM if you'd rather, with the idea/brief details. When I receive a request I'll allocate it a number. On Friday 15th November at the latest (requests dependant) I'll pick a number from a hat and that'll be the winning request.
Hmm... I'm game. Myself, I could do with a new landscape feature in this fiction garden of mine, which is starting to look a little weed-ridden here. PM incoming.

Okay, there aren't NEARLY enough Sunset/Applejack stories out there. I mean, I dunno, maybe it's just my headcanon, but I feel these two would be a great ship if done right. I'm planning my own SunJack story in the near future!
I guess I just see potential in Applejack's stubborn insistence on being the "reliable" one who shoulders all the work (re: Applebuck Season-- season 1, episode 4) as being a perfect place to brew some conflict. Sunset is unofficially officially representing the element of empathy, so she picks up on this, and maybe a lingering sense of loneliness...? Especially because I just get the sense that Sunset would ALSO try to shoulder everything herself.
I mean, aside from this, all I got is begging for more Silver Spanner centric fics. She's a background pony. Once upon a time, I held a contest trying to stir up more fics about her. I made a forum post trying to pool together all the deets about her. It could be cyberpunk adventure, or just slice of life comedy, or whatever you can think of. So long as Silver is the main character.

Jokes, of course, that's all fine and dandy. I don't spend too much time reading them but it certainly isn't a pairing I've seen much of on the site. Recent episodes/shorts/whatever they're called seemed to have a definite Sunset/Pinkie vibe by all accounts?
Ah I remember the brief flurry of Silver Spanner fics a few years back. That was all on you wasn't it, if I remember right. There was a group and everything!
I'm easy with either of those to be honest, so it's completely up to you.

There are quite a few ships that I like that there arent enough of. I’m. Not going to list them off but instead just tell you the one that I think would make a cute story. And that would be a romantic story for the ship TwiFire (Twilight and Spitfire)

Hmm... I wonder what's your stand on the "finale" in "The Last Problem" ? I know it's a bit divisive with some people, but personnally, i like it a lot, i think it throw some interesting possibilities and situations for new and old characters.

Okay, I wasn't arrested for crimes against long running shows. That's a relief. I guess it's okay for me to mention then that I haven't actually seen it yet. I've actually only really watched S8/S9 from a student perspective, unless the mane seven episodes featured Smolder and/or Ocellus in prominent roles. I know, right? I am slowly working my way through them, but as I dropped out of the fandom for a spell I've been easing my way back in through my preferred characters.
That said, I'm aware of a lot of the content of the finale; I've not been overly fussed with avoiding spoilers or anything, so I'm at least partially familiar with the characters and setups you mentioned. And it's a nice concept for sure, I could be down for that! It's added to the list; I'm looking forward to picking one out next week.
