    Episode Re-Review: Grannies Gone Wild

Well, Tell Your Tale finally decided to try to do something interesting, because the last episode showed Sunny's mom in a flashback. But they didn't even give her a name, let alone elaborate on what happened to her. And given the way Tell Your Tale progresses, I'm not expecting any follow-up anytime soon. Getting back to G4, Season 8 hit its first stumbling block only four episodes in, and the

Episode Re-Review: Fake It 'Til You Make It

Oh joy, it's back to Season 8. Season 9 has its fair share of detractors, but hardly anyone I know ever sings Season 8's praises, and for good reason. We now know that the School of Friendship was added at Hasbro's request because they wanted the show to wrap up with nine seasons, forcing the writers to change their plans for the pillars. About the only good thing to come out of Season 8 seems to

Special Re-Review: Equestria Girls: Forgotten Friendship

While we now know that this has to take place not just before Season 8 but before the events of the 2017 FiM movie, it first premiered in February of 2018, about a month before Season 8 of FiM hit the airwaves. Interestingly, the Discovery Family broadcast omitted several scenes that were later released as part of an "extended" version. As for the writer, it was none other than Nick Confalone,

    Episode Re-Review: Uncommon Bond

After the absolute disaster that was "Secrets and Pies", Season 7 really needed something to redeem it and give it the chance to go out on a high note, especially now that the big 2017 movie had come and gone, and the show's future was still uncertain. Josh Haber, after having returned to the story editor's chair and ultimately taking back the reigns fully from Joanna Lewis and Kristine Songco

Ranking the Rainbow Dash Episodes (From Worst to Best), Version 2 · 5:56pm Sep 21st, 2019

We're getting close to the end here, folks. And now apparently the final three episodes (for those who haven't seen it early yet) are going to air on prime time on a Saturday evening (when everyone's going to be too busy watching College Football, way to kill the ratings, Discovery Family). But whatever, that's not what we're here to talk about. We're here to evaluate Rainbow Dash's overall performance now that her focus episodes for Season 9 are done. She got a total of three, bumping her total up to 34 (more than any mane six/seven/eight member except for Twilight). But where do they fall relative to all her other focus episodes? Is there a new low for her or a new high? Well, let's find out. Here's the first version, from February.

34. Secrets and Pies (Season 7, Episode 23)
Why it stayed on the bottom: This is still my least favorite episode of the entire show, and for once the worst character outing for the character we're talking about here matches up with the worst episode on my overall ranking list. There is zero reason for Rainbow Dash to go to the extremes she does here just to maintain her lie. I don't get what it is with this episode and "The Maud Couple" saying that it's okay to keep secrets from Pinkie because she won't understand. She's proven that she is more than capable of doing so (I might argue she's more understanding than Rainbow Dash). What Rainbow does here is basically gaslighting, making Pinkie question her own sanity. And considering Rainbow was around to see Pinkie go off the deep end in "Party of One" she's the absolute last pony who should be doing something like this! It's not funny, it's not understandable, it's not necessary, it's shallow, selfish and stupid!

33. Non-Compete Clause (Season 8, Episode 9)
Why it stayed above the bottom: At least I can kind of buy Rainbow Dash doing what she does here (though not to the extent that she would willingly endanger the students or do nothing when one of them nearly drowned!). Rainbow always has been competitive and eager to prove herself. I can buy her getting jealous of Fluttershy always winning the Teacher of the Month award and wanting to prove that she can win that post. It's just that the episode points out specifically why this is out of character for her, she's part of the Wonderbolts now and should know what it means to be a team player. And I don't get why two encore shorts were aimed at trying to follow-up on her rivalry with Applejack here, if it didn't work the first time you tried to recreate it why would it work the second or third time?

32. Newbie Dash (Season 7, Episode 7)
Why it stayed in the bottom three: This episode basically killed the potential for Rainbow Dash as a Wonderbolt. She finally gets to achieve her dream, and what does she do? She makes a rookie mistake that makes her look like a child (not watching before crossing a road) and gets teased because of it. But does she do the sensible thing and try to talk to the Wonderbolts? Does she maybe suck it up and accept that she made a mistake? No, she tries way too hard to stick out when she's told over and over again not to do so by her own teammates (who aren't much more sympathetic when they keep harping on her instead of trying to help her). And when she's told not to showboat and take over a routine for her debut, she does so anyway and only avoids getting kicked out of the Wonderbolts because she's a main character and thus gets special treatment. Maybe if this episode hadn't poisoned the well, we would've gotten to see more stories of Rainbow Dash as a Wonderbolt? They only tried once, and it wasn't much of an improvement.

31. 28 Pranks Later (Season 6, Episode 16 in production order/15 in airdate)
Why it stayed low: Just like "Newbie Dash" Rainbow Dash is told flat out not to do something and she continues to do it anyway, ignoring any and all pleas to stop. Even Pinkie Pie (who was on Rainbow's side by the way) tries to get her to back off, but Rainbow is stupidly obsessed with trying to prove some kind of point (what is she even hoping to accomplish by pranking the whole town? Just pranking Applejack and Rarity proved that she puts effort into her pranks, and she had no reason to target the town when most of them were innocent bystanders). She does kind of get better when she starts to feel bad about making Pinkie sick, but was that zombie prank really the only way to get her to see sense? It could've easily backfired, and what exactly would the townsponies thought if Pinkie hadn't tipped them off about what Rainbow was doing? Would Rainbow Dash have come clean rather than make the CMC (including her honorary little sister Scootaloo) take the fall for her?

30. 2, 4, 6, Greaaat (Season 9, Episode 15)
Why it's in the bottom five: I wasn't kidding when I said we'd seen way worse from Rainbow Dash than in this episode. I can't completely blame her for what she does here, because she openly admitted to knowing nothing about cheerleading and expressed repeatedly that she wasn't interested in it and was just going to mess it up. Any wise pony would've listened to those complaints and realized that you don't force someone into something they absolutely hate and have no desire to do. But that can only go so far to justify her half hearted approach to cheerleading, shirking her responsibilities to her students, and blaiming them for their routine failing when she wasn't doing her job of coaching them. She does learn her lesson, but the apology's wording makes it seem like Smolder had to basically tailor her argument to suit Rainbow's ego rather than what was necessary (it's not about being awesome, it's about doing a good job). Some also say that Rainbow should know about cheerleading considering she taught Fluttershy the elements of a good cheer. But knowing what makes a good cheer doesn't mean you know about cheerleading, because there's more to it than just cheers.

29. May the Best Pet Win (Season 2, Episode 7)
Why it moved up: It only moved up by no longer being in the bottom five, otherwise nothing really changed for it. I don't think Rainbow is abusive here, the pets participate of their own free will and some do back out before the final race. Plus, the rest of the mane six are just bystanders even when they're concerned Rainbow doesn't know what a pet needs. But even so Rainbow Dash basically declares herself best pony here, trying to tailor a pet to her desires instead of perhaps a pet that she might actually like for what it is. The thing is though, when she finally gets hit by karma, it comes when she's surprisingly sympathetic and just makes the other pets who fly right past her look shallow. All of which was done just to give her a tortoise for a pet (because the working title gave away the predictably of this episode).

28. The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well (Season 2, Episode 8)
Why it moved down: Ever since this episode came along Rainbow Dash episodes have always been struggling not to fall into the same pit traps as this one, some of which have succeeded and some of which haven't. I get what the episode was going for, much like "28 Pranks Later" it tries to set up a moral for Rainbow Dash to learn in the way she learns best, direct experience. But they make several mistakes here, most noticeably making Rainbow way too sympathetic when the narrative wants you to see her as the bad guy who must be brought down a peg (at least when South Park did this it was obvious that Eric Cartman was a self centered a-hole who was only in it for his own glory). And the way the episode ends, it implies (unintentionally) that Rainbow hasn't learned her lesson at all, that she still sees nothing wrong with the way she was acting. It's just that when the truth about Mare-Do-Well is revealed, they assume our sympathies will go to the rest of mane six even when they were doing exactly what they accused Rainbow of doing, and when it doesn't it just means that we don't really have anyone to root for (removing sympathy from one group of characters doesn't mean the other ones automatically get it back).

27. The Cart Before the Ponies (Season 6, Episode 15 in production order/14 in airdate)
Why it moved down: Rainbow Dash at least has the "excuse" of Scootaloo not directly telling her she wants to win Most Creative instead of Fastest Cart, and Rainbow oddly is the only one who tries to cheer for the CMC during the second derby (before Rarity and Applejack for some reason talk her out of it). But that's really the extent to which Rainbow can be tolerated or forgiven, she still could've and should've talked to Scootaloo when she saw the filly trying to decorate the cart with chicken stuff. And she is just as equally at fault for the crash (and not caring about Scootaloo afterward) as Rarity and Applejack.

26. Top Bolt (Season 6, Episode 24)
Why it moved down: Throughout this whole episode it feels like they're trying to make Rainbow Dash into the butt monkey, every single joke is at her expense (being called back to Wonderbolts HQ by the map after just leaving, falling asleep in class, Angel Wings proclaiming Vapor Trail and Sky Stinger as her new favorite ponies within ear shot of Rainbow Dash). It doesn't help that Rainbow's "belief" about how to solve the problem (which is anything but a friendship problem by the way) makes no sense. Sky Stinger isn't going to bother to improve if he doesn't think he has any reason to, so why is it okay to keep his confidence up rather than outright tell him he sucks? Rainbow Dash especially should know what it's like to not notice the obvious, and should know that sometimes you have to spell it out before someone realizes what the problem is. Considering map missions are supposed to be a team effort, it really feels like Twilight is doing all the lifting and Rainbow is just there to be made fun of.

25. Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3 (Season 4, Episode 22 in production order/21 in airdate)
Why it moved down: Again, this episode tries to imply Rainbow Dash has some kind of learning disability, but then it backpedals at the very end when it reveals that she just learns through multitasking and on the spot observation. But even when they're trying to imply Rainbow might not learn in the traditional way, or through any other method shown, she never seems to make much of an effort to try and learn. She just keeps goofing off during Twilight's lectures and then blames Twilight for failing a pop quiz, and she continues to lash out at her friends the moment she doesn't get what they're trying to teach her the first time around (even though you usually don't learn everything right away, repetition is often the key to success). And the fact at the end everypony is able to just teach her what she needs to know for her to ace the test, ends up creating an unrealistic and false hope that runs contrary to the episode's moral.

24. Tanks for the Memories (Season 5, Episode 5)
Why it moved down: As nice it is to see Rainbow Dash actually care about Tank (to an extent anyway) and for her to get her own solo song with "I'll Fly", the episode sees her willing to sabotage weather and commit eco-terrorism just so she doesn't have to say goodbye to Tank. Even if you believe the death angle (which they foolishly thought hibernation for winter would be a good enough substitute for), Rainbow still isn't completely sympathetic here. The biggest sin by far is what she says during "I'll Fly", particularly the line about how she knows that what she's doing is wrong but she doesn't care (the textbook example of pretention: "What I'm doing is wrong. I know it's wrong. But I'm doing it (or gonna do it) anyway."). Maybe in some cases that can be used to make a commentary about the lengths we could (or should) go to achieve certain objectives, but in this case it's clear that it was just thrown in there because they could. Plus, there's the fact that Rainbow Dash's efforts to stop Tank's hibernation might be doing more harm to him than if she just let him hibernate (although apparently domesticated tortoises aren't supposed to hibernate).

23. Daring Doubt (Season 9, Episode 21)
Why it's low: I get the feeling that they didn't want us to find Rainbow Dash in the right here, especially with how much they made her keep harping on about not listening to Caballeron or Ahuizotl with the argument that "Maybe they're just a bad guy". But the fact is, Rainbow Dash has every reason to assume they are that, because she's been on Daring Do's adventures and at no point did either Caballeron or Ahuizotl offer any hints that they were not all bad. Caballeron was more than happy to kidnap Rainbow Dash and Quibble Pants just because they might have been told by Daring Do about the amulet he was looking for, and was more than happy to ruin Daring Do's reputation if it meant he could steal glowpez necklaces from Somnambula Village. And Ahuizotl gladly used Rainbow Dash to bait Daring Do into surrendering, and had his henchponies attack Rainbow when she was working alongside Daring. But on top of that, Rainbow Dash ended up being proven partially right when Caballeron willingly confessed to originally planning to steal the talisman. And when Fluttershy went along with Caballeron, Rainbow immediately ran to get help from Daring Do. It's just that it feels like Rainbow Dash (and to a lesser extent Daring Do) was an afterthought in this episode, and she was just turned into a strawman (or strawmare as the case may be). Existing solely to be proven wrong, which for her final outing was not the best way to handle her.

22. Grannies Gone Wild (Season 8, Episode 5)
Why it stayed the same: Yeah, if you can't tell by looking at this list, the later seasons were not kind to Rainbow Dash. It seemed like they often didn't know what to do with her and just stuck her into whatever throwaway plots they could think of after she became a Wonderbolt. I don't even get what the point of this episode is if Rainbow Dash actually cared about the Golden Horseshoe Gals and the resolution was a simple "Why didn't you say so?".

21. Rainbow Falls (Season 4, Episode 10)
Why it moved down: There's no denying that Rainbow Dash had by far the worst key episode of the bunch, this supposed "test" of her loyalty was saddled by a bunch of poor writing decisions that made no sense. And it feels very fanficy with it plot elements, especially Rainbow thinking that there's no way she'll ever fly again while faking her injuries. It doesn't even make sense from a self imposed challenge perspective, because if that was the case why would Rainbow impose such a burden on herself when it's not just her glory she's fighting for?

20. Games Ponies Play (Season 3, Episode 12)
Why it moved down: It's moving down to make room for a new episode that has yet to be added, otherwise there isn't really much to talk about that I haven't already talked about. They do give something of a motivation for Rainbow Dash here (kind of a flimsy one but one that does feel in character for her), but even then she ends up directly contributing to a lot of the episode's flaws. And I don't get why exactly she alone took the blame when her friends were just as guilty of going along with her plans.

19. Griffon the Brush Off (Season 1, Episode 5)
Why it moved down: While this is a Rainbow Dash episode, it's one that she's only really part of for the beginning and the very end. Otherwise this is mostly a Pinkie Pie and Gilda episode. Rainbow does get some of the first hints of character development here, sticking up for her new friends when her old friend proves to be a possessive bully. But the plot changing directions multiple times results in a really weird initial subplot of Rainbow trying to avoid Pinkie for whatever reason (it's funny to watch, but at the same time why exactly is Pinkie being treated like something to stay away from?).

18. The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone (Season 5, Episode 8)
Why it moved down: It's a shame that they didn't spend more time on Rainbow Dash and Gilda reconciling, even though Rainbow ends up being focused on way more. It's understandable why she would go for the direct approach, and it's understandable that she's still bitter about Gilda. But that can only go so far to make up for how grumpy she is, which is not the right kind of attitude to have when you're going into a foreign country as a diplomat (you have to be on your best behavior). Also, I have to ask, why is that in team up episodes Rainbow Dash was always quickly sidelined somehow and had to be rescued? This isn't the only time it would happen in one of her focus episodes.

17. Read It and Weep (Season 2, Episode 16)
Why it moved down: There's not much to really say about this episode, it's fine for what it is. Rainbow Dash gets a few good moments here, and the allegory for being a Brony is nicely done (especially since Rainbow Dash is popular with the Brony fandom). But it is a bit contrived that this time her crash landing was bad enough to land her in the hospital. Still, after Season 2 up to this point had way overdone it on the Rainbow Dash focus, this was the first step towards bringing her down a peg and toning down her ego.

16. Rarity Investigates! (Season 5, Episode 16 in production order/15 in airdate)
Why it moved down: Rainbow Dash does fine here, she and Rarity play off each other well enough. It's a shame that when they teamed up again for "Sparkle's Seven" Rainbow was basically forced to be Rarity's sacrificial lamb to get them into the tunnels. Some have argued that Rainbow needing to once again state that the Wonderbolts aren't about playing dirty and sabotaging others makes the Wonderbolts look bad, but I feel like even the best of teams have bad examples and influences. But it's Rarity who really steals the show here, despite Rainbow's occasional outbursts or fangirl antics.

15. The End in Friend (Season 8, Episode 17 in production order/18 in airdate)
Why it moved down: I end up sympathizing with Rainbow Dash on every argument from the very beginning here, which is not a good sign when the episode wants to show how Rarity and Rainbow Dash can get along despite not having anything in common (nevermind the couple of things that they do have in common). If anything she really lives up to her element here by trying repeatedly to being accomadating to Rarity even when Rarity seems to be going out of her way to insult or ignore Rainbow's hobbies.

14. Parental Glideance (Season 7, Episode 7)
Why it moved down: Even moreso than the previous example, the writers make Rainbow Dash too sympathetic when she's supposed to be in the wrong. Her parents come across as creepy, obsessive fans of her. And we see how their method of parenting may have directly made Rainbow unable to handle or cope with failure. Despite all of that, even when Rainbow isn't happy to see her parents, she doesn't immediately turn on them. It's only after the episode is spent showing them at their absolute worst as fans (ruining the fun for everyone else and even sometimes putting the Wonderbolts in danger) that Rainbow finally yells at them. And her arguments feel justified even when the episode wants you to see her as unsympathetic. Even now that we've seen Scootaloo's parents I still believe her line to Rainbow Dash was projection more than anything, but it's likely that a part of her does wish her parents weren't always away on adventures so she could talk to them more (having her aunts and other ponies look after her can only do so much to make up for her absent parents).

13. Fall Weather Friends (Season 1, Episode 13)
Why it moved down: At least this grudge match only affects Rainbow Dash and Applejack, nopony else. And their own antics and rivalry end up costing each other. But it is still jarring to see Rainbow blantently cheat in the Iron Pony Competition and refuse to accept that she tripped over a rock (there is nothing to suggest Applejack tripped her up). Still, she doesn't try to use her wings in the Running of the Leaves until the end, after Applejack has already started cheating to counter Rainbow's sabotage. It's kind of surprising that AppleDash used to be so popular because of this episode, but nowadays it seems to be nowhere in sight (same for PinkieDash, TwiDash, and even kind of FlutterDash).

12. Buckball Season (Season 6, Episode 19 in production order/18 in airdate)
Why it moved down: It's understandable why Rainbow Dash would think ponies thrive off of competition and competing for glory, because that's what motivates her more than anything. And it's great that she realizes her mistake and tries to atone for it, and is willing to give up her spot on the team when better players come along. But she really should know that Fluttershy doesn't do well when the spotlight is directly on her, seeing as Rainbow knows Fluttershy better than anypony else.

11. Daring Done? (Season 7, Episode 17 in production order/18 in airdate)
Why it moved out of the top ten: It only really moved out because a new episode yet to be added is joining really high up there. It takes a while for Rainbow's better nature to shine through here. At first we're to assume she's really only concerned about getting Daring to snap out of her funk so she'll write more books. It isn't until Pinkie calls her directly on this that Rainbow reveals her real motivation is to make sure Daring is okay and isn't giving up on herself. It really feels like Philoteces from Hercules when he reveals why he came back to help Hercules after his deal with Hades: "Giving up is for rookies. I came back 'cause I'm not quittin' on ya." But when Caballeron is revealed as the mastermind, Rainbow just gets tied up and taken out of the action without fanfare, and at no point is it revealed that she let herself get captured.

10. The Hearth's Warming Club (Season 8, Episode 15 in production order/16 in airdate)
Why it's in the top ten: This is more of a student six episode than it is a TwiDash episode, but there are still plenty of good TwiDash moments sprinkled throughout. The best is seeing Rainbow play the bad cop to Twilight's good cop, even when we learn later on that she too suspected Gallus as the culprit but wanted to give him a chance to confess. I could kind of see her being a hard boiled, bitter detective like Hank Anderson from Detroit: Become Human (except maybe not as foul mouthed and depressed).

9. Daring Don't (Season 4, Episode 4)
Why it moved down: I did ultimately write the hypothetical idea of this being Rainbow Dash's key episode instead of "Rainbow Falls", and I think with some tweaking it could've worked out. But like with "Daring Done?" it takes a while for Rainbow's better nature to be showcased here. She's initially only worried about A. K. Yearling/Daring Do because if something happened to her that means nomore books. Thankfully, her time with Daring Do is pretty good. It's one of the rare times in the show where a mane six member makes something worse, regrets it, and tries to atone for it. Though that does get a bit undermined when we learn that Daring Do planned to get caught (and was maybe a little too convincing about it).

8. Flutter Brutter (Season 6, Episode 12 in production order/11 in airdate)
Why it moved down: Rainbow Dash works surprisingly well as a voice of reason here, not that Fluttershy really needed much encouragement to stand up to Zephyr Breeze in the first place. What might be most surprising is how she's quick to tap into Fluttershy's mood, and seems to know that it's important to talk about things instead of keeping it inside. But for the most part Rainbow is just there to reject Zephyr's advances (and how much do you wanna bet she enjoyed zapping him with a storm cloud?).

7. Flight to the Finish (Season 4, Episode 5)
Why it moved down: This is ultimately more of a Scootaloo episode that Rainbow Dash ends up playing a big role in. I do wish they had taken the time to reveal that Rainbow knew Scootaloo's parents, even in just an indirect mention here. Her moment to shine is when she berates Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle for leaving Scootaloo behind, and ordering them to go back to Ponyville with her to talk sense into Scootaloo. But the heartfelt talk with Scootaloo afterward is unintentionally hindered by Rainbow needlessly flying throughout it, even though they kind of tip toe their way around whether Scootaloo will ever fly or not (I still say she has ways to do so if she really wants to, even if her wings can't do the job on their own).

6. Common Ground (Season 9, Episode 6)
Why it's just outside the top five: Rainbow's first focus episode of Season 9 was definitely her best in a season that ultimately didn't do her a lot of favors. Even if the bigger focus is on Quibble Pants, Clear Sky and Wind Sprint, Rainbow Dash still plays a very big role in helping it along. Despite her past feud with Quibble she's perfectly happy to help him bond with Wind Sprint, and is clearly doing the best she can with what she has to work with (she's a true wingmare). QuibbleDash was never really a popular ship to begin with, so I don't think many people minded seeing it be sunk here. And give Rainbow props, her plan to get Quibble to see the Ponyville buckball team kind of worked (Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy really could stand to do better in the moral support department). But she does get a bit of a moment of stupidity when she decides to have Quibble and Wind Sprint compete against the Ponyville buckball team for a halftime performance. Of course that's going to backfire.

5. Stranger Than Fanfiction (Season 6, Episode 14 in production order/13 in airdate)
Why it stayed the same: From here on the list is the same as it was last time around, so you can skip to the end if you saw the first version of the list. Rainbow Dash truly embodies loyalty here by not ditching Quibble Pants the first chance she gets, even when you probably wouldn't blame her for doing so. Heck, she doesn't really argue with him when they're stranded in the jungle. She's even willing to listen to him when he proves useful (and seems to be okay with him being a backseat driver).

4. The Washouts (Season 8, Episode 20)
Why it stayed the same: Rainbow Dash was only partially around and involved with the plot for "The Last Crusade" so I don't count that as her episode (same for "Sleepless in Ponyville" even though she does get a big role towards the end). It's actually nice that Scootaloo got an episode that wasn't centered on Rainbow Dash in some way, shape or form. Heck, before "The Last Crusade" some thought that because of what we saw (or rather didn't see) in "The Beginning of the End", the events of this episode triggered something of a fall out between Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo. But what makes this episode work is that Rainbow's arrogance actually costs her this time, driving Scootaloo away and into the arms of Lightning Dust. It's just that the episode kind of starts off with Rainbow complaining about Scootaloo having a new hobby and fan club.

3. Wonderbolts Academy (Season 3, Episode 7)
Why it stayed the same: Rainbow's chance to look in the mirror and become a likeable character again (for a while anyway). Lightning Dust very much feels like what Rainbow Dash might have become if she never met her friends and never became the Element of Loyalty. It was great that we saw Rainbow willing to stick up for what she believed in even if it meant turning down her dream. If not for the abrupt ending (which was done after two other endings were rejected last minute), her arc and character probably would've gotten more of a boost here. It really seemed like getting into the reserves was a bit of a step backward for her after the academy, even if it ultimately paved the way for her becoming a full fledged bolt in her own right.

2. Hurricane Fluttershy (Season 2, Episode 22)
Why it stayed the same: Even if Fluttershy in the episode's title and commands more attention, this is still very much a Rainbow Dash episode. She's driven to break a record and determined to get all the pegasi to improve their wing power to achieve it. But she doesn't neglect Fluttershy, she tries repeatedly to help her and it's clear that she wants Fluttershy to not give up on herself and face her demons. Plus, we see that when Rainbow knows the record breaking goal is no longer achieveable, she doesn't try to go for it. She's willing to settle for what she has, her ego isn't more important than ensuring Cloudsdale has enough water. But of course, there can be only one top contender.

1. Sonic Rainboom (Season 1, Episode 16)
Why it stayed on the top: What else can I say about this episode? It was one of the earliest classics of the show and remains one of the all time best. It was a deep look into Rainbow's character and what lies behind that mask of bravado she always projects. It was the first true display of loyalty we'd seen from her since the premiere (it wasn't really hard to be loyal to her new friends when Gilda's true colors were revealed and even then it was Gilda who put her on the spot). I really don't want to repeat myself here, by this point everyone has explained to varying extents what this episode did, and I think it really opened doors for Rainbow's character since she was no longer just the action heroine in a slice of life setting.

And there you have it, come back tomorrow when we'll update the rankings for the Fluttershy Episodes.
