MLP Theory (and story idea): The Crystal(ized) Heart (of Lavan) · 5:34pm Sep 21st, 2019
Many writers -- myself included -- have integrated bits of the original G1 My Little Pony cartoon with Friendship is Magic. I recently re-watched an Old School Pony Review of the episode, "Quest of The Princess Ponies." Video included and can be seen below.
To touch on the relevant points for this post:
Lavan was a lava monster. In a quest for power, he abducted a variety of princesses and took their magic wands. Eventually, Lavan was able to harness the power of the wands, pulling it into himself. As a result, he is turned into crystal. At the end, he is defeated, and blows up. He shatters in the process.
But what if not all of him shattered? What if one part survived?
Lavan's heart.
A heart that would now be crystal. The power of the wands infused it, forever changing it in a way that it would now be affected and influenced by pony magic. However, its origins would never fully leave it. Say, it would be able to take those feelings and convert it into heat. Plus, maybe it would have the ability to release some of that magic, causing things to take on a crystalline appearance.
Sounds like it would be perfect for a place made of crystals that exists in a very cold area.
In other words, maybe The Crystal Heart in The Crystal Empire was the heart of Lavan.j
This also leads to a potential story idea.
What if Lavan could come back? For example: If the Heart could be submerged in lava, the magic would affect it, and the memories of Lavan would awaken, using the material to form a new body. Not only would it mean there was a different ancient threat returning to threaten Equestria, but that The Crystal Empire would be in danger. Remember, as demonstrated "The Crystalling," the Heart doesn't just keep The Empire warm, but protects it from storms as well. Which means there was something of a time limit. If the Heart is not returned, The Empire will be covered by storms and possibly frozen.
So, the heroes will have to rush to defeat Lavan, and try to re-collect The Crystal Heart from his very body! Plus, what happens if they end up shattering The Heart in the process? Will they be able to repair once again, or will it -- and The Empire -- be lost forever?
Neat. The Doctor apparently dealt with Squirk offscreen, and I have him doing that with a bunch of other G1 threats using "an Abyssinian would-be dictator" as the throwaway reference that clinches it for the people who know their stuff.
So... we have to cast the Heart into the fires of Mount Doom, where it was forged?
Others suggest the Crystal Heart could be the Heart Stone, of His Royal Elevated Eminence (who created Crunch The Rock Dog).

Also, bless the Princess Ponies. They went from bitchy to badass in short order.

Well, in a way it would be the reverse. More like if you threw it into Mount Doom, it would end up creating and unleashing Sauron onto the world.
I have to say, that actually IS a darn good theory./story idea Thank you very much for sharing it.
Heck, maybe the story could be set just a couple of years after Celestia and Luna retire so they can be free to lend a more direct hoof in the adventure while Twilight and Spike are unavoidably detained on a diplomatic mission.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time and energy to tackle it myself, but I wish anybody who does REALLY good luck.
