Fly Away, Robin. . . . · 1:58pm Aug 15th, 2019
I was going to write a tribute story for this week, but I had to move, and work’s been stressful, and I’ve been rather depressed, lately, so I’ve not had the energy to finish it. Oh, well, I suppose there’s always next year.
Still, I feel it’s important to note that, five years ago last Sunday, we lost one of my favorite actors and comedians growing up, Robin Williams. I . . . don’t have the words, here, to truly express my feelings about it. It was the most shocking and heartbreaking thing I’ve ever felt, at the time, when I heard he had died, and then when I found out HOW, it was even worse.
So very often, the ones who make us all laugh the most, are the ones who are in the most pain, or feel the most sadness, and this makes sense, in a warped sort of way. Think of a time when you’ve felt that sort of depression and negativity, and wonder if you would want anyone in the world to have to go through that. Maybe some of us, maybe most of us, would say that, sure, there are people we would like to have hurt that badly. But Robin wasn’t like that. He was a better person than most, and wanted nothing but joy and laughter for the world.
Some of my earliest memories of him were the film Flubber, and I would watch and re-watch that movie. It was so funny, and yet emotional. I’m not ashamed to admit that I always cried when Weebo “Died”. Soon after I started spending most of my time on the internet, I stumbled on to Mork & Mindy, and laughed and cried along with that show, as well.
Robin spread joy and happiness to the world as a whole, and he gave it to me when I was younger. If, in any way, I can make someone laugh, or smile, than I feel a little bit better about myself and my day. Don’t let negativity drag you down, folks, the world’s not as bad as you might think it is. It’s just, media and the internet LOVES to focus on the bad things, and the negative things, but if you look, the good is there as well, just waiting to shine through.
We all miss you, Robin, and we hope you’re happy, and still spreading smiles everywhere you go.
You’re free, Genie.
