Sunset's Family Fic · 4:03am Aug 3rd, 2019
I have also been playing around with the idea of doing a fan fic where Sunset goes to Equestria to reconnect with her family(assuming she was not adopted by Celestia which I honestly feel she was) and have been wondering how to go about it.
I was thinking perhaps make it so she was adopted however make it to where her parents had no choice but to do so and then now years later one or both of them return to make things up to Sunset.
Or perhaps Sunset came from a broken family that she doesn't like to talk about.
Not sure how I would do it. Any suggestions or ideas?
Hm to be honest both ideas have there merits. I kinda like the broken merit idea but the her family coming back isn’t something we’ve really seen and it would go with her theme of redemption and being a better person than you were in the past.
As much fun (and writing fodder) as it is, I am getting a little tired of little orphan Sunset.
I'm actually working on an origin story where Sunset comes from a close, loving home, but over time, she and her parents drift apart.
My personal headcanon is that Sunset was an orphan who essentially got adopted by Celestia when she was made her personal student. However Celestia just didn't have the time to be a proper mother to her, plus trying to keep their relationship more of a mentor/student than mother/daughter, that starts off the mommy issues that end up pushing Sunset to the path she eventually took.
Also plays nicely with the jealously she felt towards Cadance, what with her just showing up one day, wings and horn, and gets adopted by Celestia as her niece. Cue the beginning of Sunset's obsession with alicornhood.
I personally feel this sets a nice contrast with Twilight, because as much as she (Twi) hero-worships Celestia, she still had a loving family as a support, so she didn't feel the neglect Sunset must have felt.
Okay I don't know what to say here but I'm would love to read this kind of fic

That's a great head canon. I have a similar one however I have it to where sunset was dropped at an orphanage because her parents were in danger and so they had to send her away to protect. Dad died. Mom lives and comes back to see her daughter and make up for lost time

Now that I would like to see
Why not try that idea that you done in old sunlight story you used to have up, you know the one where sunset is about to marry twilight her mother comes in the night before and have a heartfelt moment with each other.
I really liked that scene and I thought “why not?” So I believe it’s not a bad idea to reuse that sequence.
