State of the Author - August 2019

Hi all!

I’ve been rather quiet here on fimfiction recently. The truth of the matter is that I’ve been spending time away from writing ponyfic recently. I would contend that, aside from a couple hundred words toward Retrograde, I haven’t written any pony words since the last publication for Divergence. You might be asking yourself why.

Well, 20% of it is because I’ve been busy doing summer research. I’m a high energy experimentalist (as much as I can say for being a first year graduate student), so I’m currently at Brookhaven National Lab in New York for the summer. I’ll be spending the remainder of the summer and then the next few years working on the STAR experiment here at Brookhaven, where we work with heavy ions within RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider). It’s been an interesting experience thus far, but it’s functioned much like a 40-hour work week, like a 9-5 job (really 10-6), which is very different from school time.

The other 80% is because I’ve been involved in a new writing project. You see, this year I got into playing Dungeons and Dragons. I came up with a character concept that I really liked and I started taking it upon myself to sort of novelize her adventures. I’ve had a blast doing it. Because of things, her adventure is about to come to a close (which kinda sucks because I expected to have more time with her), but I rest easy knowing that I not only have her story forever, but I’d be able to use her for other games too. I’m already preparing to DM a campaign of my own.

Naturally, writing these things has taken writing time away from Divergence and Retrograde. But I don’t regret it. I will get back to the regularly scheduled (or not really scheduled) material soon, though. In the meantime, I wanted to invite all of you to read what I’ve written and hopefully get some enjoyment out of it, just as I have.

And I’ll mention that this is not a complete list, since there are still some logs that I want to write still. So stay tuned. Enjoy!
