What Has Truly Kept Me In The Fandom? · 8:49pm Jul 28th, 2019
Before the last 13 episodes of the series air (in America at least), I was thinking about what I'm going to miss about Friendship Is Magic. Because honestly, I don't think G5 will look or feel the same and not capture my attention. Sorry to be a pessimist about it, but it's what I think might happen. But who knows, it might be great. I want it to prove me wrong. I would love to have another wild, crazy obsession over some pastel-colored creatures.
Okay, ranting aside, what I'm going to miss most about this show is the music. Not only the songs from the show, which drew me into the series into the first place but also the fandom music that spawned from this.
I went through all the songs that I have on my ancient iPhone 3 and would like to share some that are of significance to me.
The first fandom-related song that I had ever listened to was "FlutterWonder" by PinkiePieSwear (who has since then changed his name). This song exposed me to the creative side of the fandom. I had no idea of the extent of this foreign group of people at the time. I had thought it was just a group of avid cartoon watching males. But this song blew me away. The vocal splicing and the simplicity of the synth work were incredible. Not to mention that the video for it was beyond adorable. If you haven't seen or heard the video, do so now. You are long overdue.
Now, it already had been 2015 for a few months, so I was unaware of the prominent figures in the fandom that kickstarted this creative explosion. This leads me to my next song of significance, which everyone knows as well: "Discord (TheLivingTombstone's Remix)" originally by Eurobeat Brony. This one is a masterpiece. Much stronger than the first song, and considerably more popular than it, too, the backbeat and synths bring out the best in this. My only gripe with it is that I didn't join sooner to have this on repeat.
School had been rearing its ugly head, but before I had to slave my way through, I had found this artist called Foozogz through a rather grim animation that we all know and love. Some songs I find extraordinary are "Acceptance" (even my younger brother likes this one and he's not even a fan), "Faded" (this one makes me sad every time and I will have this repeating when the show ends; it breaks my goddamn cold and black heart), and "Make It Special (Reflection Mix)". The vocal splicing is off the charts impressive.
After school went into session, my interest died down pretty quick. I wanted to make sure I made the final year strong and important. My parents had divorced (and dad, if you found your way here, fuck you for treating me like I was 7 throughout the entire thing. Thank you for being honest with me. /s) Simply put, I was feeling down. I delved into the fandom again and stumbled upon an SFM animation for another piece of music.
The animation is done beautifully and the music is the backbone of the project. This one was "Fluttershy's Dream" by Blaze (who has since removed that song and abandoned his channel for another project. Hope things have been working out for him.) I was so amazed by the work and dedication and needed to find out what musician made this amazing song. His channel didn't offer much, but I found archives of his stuff and binged those every time I was bored. Check out those if they are still there. This one is my favorite.
I graduated, had good grades, and felt pretty confident about my life going forward. Things went south though. I had flunked a few classes which sunk my GPA and cost me some scholarships. Right about now, it's summer of 2017. I had jumped into the fanfiction circles and was on the verge of starting to write and publish my own stories. I had been writing little one-offs that never went anywhere (no, I am not releasing those ever, lol). I was tired of my current song selection and decided to put on a mix. That mix and the dedication to processing and blending it perfectly left me in awe.
I had favorites from time to time, so I'm just going to list the ones that I had on repeat the most. But do yourself a favor, put aside two hours and listen to the whole mix.
My favorites:
Ultimate Wolfpuncher by Quadrivia and Arturo Host
Come Alive (NekoWolf Remix)
Stratosphere by UndreamedPanic
Technicolor Shades by YourEnigma and Vylet
Little Dreams by Vylet
It's Gonna Work (JoinedTheHerd Remix)
Getting Stronger (Solardisk Remix)
The Magic Inside (Aviators Remix)
I'm feeling sad because I don't want this creativity to die, but it's been dwindling, and MLP:FiM is ending so it's going to happen. It's been a great 4.5 years for me. For some people more and some less. Glad I was able to take part in this silly little brony fandom. Here's to hoping G5 exceeds all expectations!
Sorry for the essay. This is something I've wanted to write for a while. If you made it this far, then you are the best type of person. See you all in the next crazy obsession!
I think it will continue, it may die down a little, but there will always be creative inspired minds.
I love the songs fans have made as well, they are wonderful

That's a nice way to look at it. I'm just a pessimist when it comes to stuff like this.
I probably should focus on the now, rather than stress about the end. It will end but it'll go out with a bang.
