Imma just... catch a few more of these early releases real quick. Saw someone I follow put up a thought piece they had on this, so kinda been eager to make it this far so I can finally give it a read without spoilers. Well, beyond now knowing which two characters this seem to be about.
So, let’s get on with the show!

Huh, this does seem promising.
Damn, this seem interesting. I’ve never been a Spike/Rarity shipper myself as it was obviously meant to be a one-sided gag thing, playing on the trope of a kid crushing on someone older than them. I do like this twist they are opening with, and I hope they keep it coming with purpose. Because Rarity always obviously been taking Spike for granted.

Still adore how adorably dressed she can go to pick up gems underground.
Huh, must admit didn’t expect AJ as Substitute Spike the way they lead up to it. Also, damn, she broke that big gem good in her magic.
... Rarity’s frazzled mane style looks a lot like Fluttershy’s frazzled mane looked like in the last episode. Just an observation.
You know, I’m not finding it annoying how Rarity is acting on her feelings of entitlement to Spike’s servitude without pay. Because we KNOW how she got used to it, and knew sooner or later she would have to realize what is a bad habit and not just... accepted reality.
Oh Rarity.

I’m not a Rarity hater, honest, I adore her as much as the rest of the Mane Six. I just feel immense satisfaction from watching her get the short end after taking Spike so for granted. She has yet to truly come to terms with exactly what she has been doing, and it happens to a lot of people. Not necessarily on purpose to hurt others or bad intentions, but we all can develop a habit of entitlement when enabled for it.
Heh, dragon tongues to tell good and bad gems apart.
First trying to apologize for the sake of apologizing without finding a reason for it. So I bet next step is forcefully show appreciation with expectation everything will immediately go back to normal?

Okay, at least she went the “you can teach me” route of making interest in his interest, instead of the typical comedy route of pretending to already know everything about it to try and impress. Just wanna make a comment of appreciation in that, it’s such a trope.

Oh yes, overly gratitude with expectations of things then turning back to ‘normal’. I didn’t expect the friendship sabotage, but I also think that was mostly a side effect Rarity didn’t consider. Probably just focused on ensuring Spike’s attention on herself, without considering Gabbie in the equation.
... oh gosh, sad Spike...
Ah, she does realize, she just denies HARD to not feel guilty.
Twilight gonna be having a lit of couches to redecorate with after enough visits from Rarity.
Kudos to Twilight just moving over to sit by Rarity while letting her come to the right conclusion herself, without a word.

Very cute episode, going about as expected... But for all how predictable it is, I still very much enjoyed. For reasons already stated above. We all knew they would be friends again at the end, I just wanted more growth for Spike and for Rarity to treat him as a friend instead of a servant.
Rarity is not a bad character or pony, this never made me dislike her. It has been a natural development we have observed from day one, with both Spike and Rarity at fault. Both falling into a daily routine of expectations, with no change. I’m happy to see the writers handle it so well iuin one episode to let Spike earn more freedom to be his own dragon less controlled by his crush in Rarity stated from day one. And for Rarity to get a wakeup call on her own level of entitlement about Spike’s servitude.
I think they handled it well, and it gave good reason to have Gabbie appear again. It explains well how often we have seen her in the background too this season, which is nice.
Spike has gotten much more of a life outside the Mane Six, and now we get shown more than just “stuff he does when they are NOT around”, now he gets a life outside the group too despite them not being out on an adventure. I like it.
I’ll stop rambling now. I like the issue brought up, the controlled levels of drama and the mature solution. Nice little bow on this relationship left on status quo for so many years.
Looking forward to see what other loose ends gonna get a nice little bow through slice-of-life episodes.
