Journal Entry - Volume 1 - Chapter 22 · 12:48am May 25th, 2019

Dear Journal,

Somehow the two of us made it through that mess! We awoke back on Derpy's couch, none the worse for wear! I gotta say, Derpy was a completely different mare after that! She was almost... normal, I suppose. I really don't blame her for her behavior before, as a lifetime of betrayal and neglect can have that effect on anyone! In my opinion, getting that weight off her shoulders was holding her down and keeping her from moving forward.

In any case, due to her being pregnant she was very hungry when she awoke. I helped her over to the table and warmed up some of the soup I had made us earlier. Now I know what a starving pony looks like when they eat! While not trying to sound... creepy, I found I couldn't take my eyes off her as she ate! Thankfully she didn’t notice me staring! It was in that moment that I realized that I could make a difference! A REAL difference! Derpy finished her soup and began licking the bowl! That snapped me back to reality, and my own uneaten bowl of soup! I extended it to her, as she needed the nutrition more. Then it happened!

As she took the bowl, Derpy suddenly fell off the chair, in obvious pain! She then informed me that it was time for her baby to be born! As I ran as fast as I could to my room for the supplies I had bought, I was thankful I had done my homework on the subject! A crude bed was formed on the table and I laid her on it. Laying out my supplies seemed to bring her a degree of comfort, as she now knew I was ready to do what needed to be done! I'll spare you the bloody details, journal.

A fairly short time later, a unicorn filly emerged into the world! Derpy looked over to her, lovingly! As I was about to get her cleaned up, the filly suddenly went limp! I think my own heart stopped there for a moment, as did Derpy's! Starting infant CPR as quickly as possible, I was able to bring her back to us! The relief I felt in that moment... it was surreal to say the least! Taking the filly over to the sink, I cleaned and wrapped her up in a blanket. As I walked toward Derpy, she held out her hooves to take her baby. Her holding the newborn was the most... I guess beautiful thing I had ever seen! The love of a mother...

After a short time, Derpy appeared to be weakening. So I took the baby, whom Derpy had named "Dinky", into my room and laid her on my bed. Returning to the living room, I closed the door behind me to let the little one sleep. Picking up the Spear of Hope from over the mantle, I walked back over to Derpy's side and examined more closely. It was then that Twilight and Spike burst into the house! I... I can only imagine the horrific sight that greeted them! A human holding a spear, a bloody mare lying on a blood soaked table, bloody implements all around them and my bloody face from giving Dinky mouth to mouth! I... I guess Twilight just kinda... assumed...! But... I only wish she had given me a chance to explain…

Twilight... why...? How could you...?! After all we’ve been through… I... I... I THOUGHT WE WERE FRIENDS, TWILIGHT!!! I thought we were... friends...

I... I guess the lesson I've learned, the hard way I might add, is...

Even when you do the right thing, sometimes it can still fall apart before your eyes!

I know that might sound corny, journal, but... even knowing what I do now, I wouldn't have done anything different!
