A long-overdue update · 7:46pm May 13th, 2019
Hey guys, how's it going? It's been a while since I gave a legitimate update on how things are going. I'm here to remedy that. Not gonna lie, the last few months have been tough. Juggling writing with work, life, hockey, and everything else going on has not been a pleasant experience. I'm trying to set up an hour each day where all I do is write, but I've never gotten much done during those times. After all, as someone famous (who was quoted by the great Shakespearicles) once said, "Writing is like a fart. If you try to force it, it's probably shit."
But, progress has been made all the same. Mostly, anyway.
For starters, I'm wanting to finish up TATSATC Chapter 12's rewrite first. Progress is going well. I'm finished with several scenes, and I'm in-progress in all others. Overall, I'd say I'm well over 50% complete with it. I don't know when it will be done, but I'm anticipating not for a couple of months.
Second, Starbound. I had a good thing going in my current chapter(s), but I basically had to tear it all down and start over, as I felt it really seemed like a disappointing payoff to the battle sequence, rather than something I want to execute a lot better than Game Of Thrones' "The Long Night" episode (Heyooooooooooo!). It is, after all, the big battle of Terra Stella, and the plan has been to release both chapters at once, but unfortunately, me having to delete everything and start over has kind of delayed that hardcore.
Third, is EIOW.
This is gonna suck.
I've made next to no progress on it since the last time I wrote. A couple of sentences at most.
Part of that is because I've been focusing on these other two stories. Starbound is close to the end and I want to get it off my plate. Once TATSATC Chapter 12 is done, I'm at a natural hiatus point for a while (considering the audio drama takes a while between episode to episode and I'm about seven episodes ahead in terms of what I've written, I'm in no rush for the moment). With both of those out of the way, I can continue with Worlds.
But lately, even when I've tried to continue, even when I know where I want each character to go and what I want them to do, and even when I'm actually in the mood, it hasn't been happening. I really don't want to cancel this story, and at the moment, I'm not. I've been working on it for over five years now, and I would hate to throw that all away. But I have to face reality. It's gotten sucky to write, and it's taken me five years to make it seventeen chapters in (in contrast, TATSATC took me eight months). I had plans for three stories to come out after it, but those are looking more and more like an impossibility, especially with the fandom winding down, so I took the time to retool the ending to at least tie up loose ends, if not in a wholly satisfying way, but with the possibility for them to be revisited later. I'm not calling off those stories yet, but it's looking more and more like an inevitability.
I'm going to do my damnedest to get Worlds finished up, even if it takes me a while. We're well over halfway through with it, but these next few chapters are supposed to be doozies, so I want them to actually live up to some of the hype, and that's making it hard for me to write, and that's why they're taking so long.
As for the fourth story, the new thing I was working on, it's kind of on hold. A lot of it is already written, but I want to get these other two chapters done before I move on.
