Fimfiction Writing vs Actual Writing · 1:55am Apr 16th, 2019
My Fimfiction writing style is extremely different from my normal writing style, and I’m not just talking about the main characters. I can take risks and experiment with more things than I can with normal narratives. I try to incorporate comedy, since that’s, like, the only thing I know how to write, (unless you want an informative essay on the Dust Bowl). However, that can sometimes lead to the narratives sounding corny, instead of funny.
I could always take inspiration from my most popular fic, but since part of the story arc revolves around Celestia picturing getting drunk, that would lead to REAL issues. I can do it on here, but not on a graded essay. Not unless I want to have a not-so friendly conversation with my ELA teacher.
I also tend to have longer paragraphs on here since I know I need to have a decent word count to get it published. I know my stories may seem short, but it’s a lot of writing for me.
I’m going to have a part 2 to this post, because there’s more I want to talk about, but I need to start winding down because I have a big test tomorrow and I slept for a whole 2 hours last night.
Have a great night, and peace out!
Oh, darling, comedy is very difficult. Should find yourself good at it, do pat yourself on the back, as it is an exceptional talent. However, should you want to branch out into other genres, try a little exercise.
Think of the saddest thing that you can. Something that brings you to tears something that utterly punches you in the guts, and it stays with you. Think of the saddest thing that's happened to you, or could, happen to you? Now make it worse Write that happening to your characters. That's drama and tragedy. Now make it happen to Twilight. Imagine how she might react. Imagine how panicked she might get, or how moody she'd be, or the heart-wrenching agony she's feeling. Describe that. You are a writer, dear, learning to write emotion is a vastly important skill. And from here, you can tweak the formula to craft all sorts of things. Horror? Surely, throw some monsters in as the cause of that sadness. Adventure? Think of the happiest thing that could resolve that last scene. Now give it to your characters.
Don't say comedy is the only thing you know how to write. Tis rubbish. I've seen your talent, darling. You can do much, much more.
Same for me...
In addition, Fanfiction, IS writing. It encourages and incorporates the same concepts, values and ideals. Do not let ANYone tell you otherwise
