Resident Evil 2: Remake Review (Non-Spoiler Review) · 1:53am Apr 8th, 2019
Has anybody ever remembered a time when Video Game Corporations cared about the consumer? When video games were made for the purpose of value and entertainment rather than just a cash-in to meet a certain deadline (I'm looking at you, EA)? Well a few months ago, Capcom has released one of the best horror games to date since January and that title has come to us in the name of a remake called Resident Evil 2.
Since the days of the Gamecube Era when the Resident Evil game was announced, fans have been clamoring again and again for a remake of the original Resident Evil 2, but to no avail. But one fateful day during the fiscal year of August 2015, it was announced that Capcom would finally answer the prayers of all the fans (including myself) that they would finally do the remake. We haven't heard a single word about the game ever since then until last year when we were shown trailers and gameplay footage of this survival horror title.
So how does this game work? Well, the gameplay style is over-the-should third-person and you are given the option to play as RPD Rookie Cop Leon S. Kennedy or Chris Redfield's sister, Claire Redfield. The goal is of the game is to escape the RPD building, but you have to travel around the architecture in a metroidvania-style of treasure hunting and clue searching. And you have to be very detailed when it comes to the locations inside the building as you can easily get lost. There is also the issue of ammunition and inventory space. You have to learn the best time and place when to use your weapons and items which can be stored away in the inventory box seen in the old Resident Evil titles. Misuse of both can be very fatal and will need time and patience to get past the zombies that lurk around RPD.
Along the way, you will encounter a trench-coat clad B.O.W. Tyrant known as Mr. X and he is an obstacle that you will have to learn to maneuver in order to progress in this game. The bosses are rather limited in terms of variety, but otherwise, are very intuitive and will need to learn their patterns before you can let loose.
So what does Yours Truly have to say about this game? I haven't played any good Resident Evil title since the days of RE4 and this game is a breath of fresh air. It plays well, the graphics are pretty to look at, and it is a title worthy of any game collector who comes across it. The story is very rich, although its A and B Scenarios can confuse anybody who play it. The characters have been upgraded and are very interesting. Every minute I played it, I wanted more and I wished to hear more about the story of Umbrella's downfall in the lore. It didn't feel rushed or exposited to hell. The gameplay was consistent and precise and it didn't feel unfair. My only gripe was I wish that the running was a little faster along with the fact that some enemies were missing. The characters that accompany our heroes are also quite entertaining. Sherry Birkin is adorable and lovable every second you're with her while Ada Wong is mysterious and hiding a secret that you will uncover later on.
So in summation, is this an awesome game that is worth every minute of your time? My answer is a resounding hell yes and I would recommend picking it up if you're into old-school Resident Evil
Rating: 8/10
I know I didn't cover the Ghost Survivors story segments, but this is about the main game and not about the DLC which I have yet to beat. So if any of you have money and are still reading this review, get off right now and pick it up. You have my word that you will enjoy it.
This is Ghoul and I'll see you on the other side.

Everybody has their preferences.

I realized capcom is probably my favorite game developer. It has most of my favorite titles like Devil May Cry. Monster Hunter. And Dragons dogma.
God know what they'll be cooking up next. I can't wait ^^

Same here. I think Capcom's the only company who still cares for its fans and would make games to please us, despite all its faults. And I'm glad they see the light. My favorite franchises in Capcom are Devil May Cry and Resident Evil. I hope to do a review for Devil May Cry V later on.

DMC5 was the best since DMC3 in my opinion
Loved it. I just wish I had a steel case for it

Doom let's not forget about Doom, because this is a game made for the fans of the classic Run and gun style the original Doom had.

I felt the same way when I saw the steel case for RE2. But alas, it was out of my reach.

Hopefully, I'll get around to doing a review of it along with Doom Eternal.
Awe, you didn't ask me to review on this? Granted, we have another review in the works but I'm a little sadden you didn't ask me on this.
