Just a thought about Prince Blueblood. · 1:53am Mar 12th, 2019
According to Word of God, Blueblood is a nephew to both Celestia and Luna, albeit several generations removed. This has gotten me to wonder just how this came to be.
Between what's been revealed about early plans for the MLP movie, some fanon from before Blueblood was officially named and a few ideas of my own, I think I have a clever way to answer that for the Quiververse. When it will be revealed is still a ways off, alas, but there you are. It will, however, be revealed before the end of Season One.
I'll be interested to see what you come up with for that.
I've never really put too much thought to the idea of Blueblood's lineage, but my personal headcanon is that he's descended from Princess Platinum. (An idea that comes from the story "The Bridge" admittedly.)
My theory/headcanon that Blueblood is a descendant of Princess Platinum and the Princesses were adopted by the Unicorn Royal family or at least were named honorary family members, so they refer to Platinum's descendants as nephews/nieces.
Though I'm eager to see what you have planned for that.
In what way are you curious about it if I may ask?
Twilight is a distant relative and may be an ancestor of Celestia and Luna. Anypony who can ascend into alicorn status is very likely a relative if not descendant because of the requirement to be descended from alicorn lineage. Thus meaning that Shining and Cadance are at least distant relatives. That is true because ancestry basically works like this:
If I understand the relative (not family) history correctly when Celestia and Luna took leadership alicorns were relatively common and made up their own group of pony kind. They just have been dying out if you will over time.
Unless of course your wondering of his direct lineage.

The idea that Blueblood's descended from Princess Platinum is one that I support, actually, and likely not uncommon in fanfiction. I doubt that anyone will object too terribly to my take on the idea, however.

It was direct lineage that I had thoughts on. That being said, your thoughts about how certain alicorns are biologically related to one another aren't too divorced from mine. I've been of the opinion for years that Twilight and Shining Armor have at least one alicorn ancestor on both sides of their family tree, though whether or not that ancestry includes Celestia and/or Luna is still up in the air. As for Cadance, well, that's something I plan on elaborating upon later.

I like that there are a number of things left unspecified like that. It allows even more room for us to create our own stories. Besides ultimately that isn't overly important for them to detail out.
That said in your most recent chapter when you had Sunset responding to her relative rather than specifying who I stopped and asked Twilight or Sunrunner? I thought this because I think that Sunset was originally going to be Twilight in Celestia's plans (a la bearer of the element of Magic, become a princess, et cetera) but things didn't go as planned thus Sunset has alicorn ancestry and thus her and Twilight are related. I then read the next line and had things clarified.
Cadance is clearly a direct descendant of Princess Amore because of birth right. So what does it mean if Twilight is too? What specifically would it mean if Twilight is a direct descendant of Celestia or Luna? Does it mean anything at all?
On the note of birth right does it bother anyone else that Celestia is "retiring" and giving Twilight control of the kingdom? Something that she clearly said in the past she could tell wasn't for Twilight. Or maybe that is a hard prank on Twilight by Celestia.

I have issues with Celestia retiring and passing the reins to Twilight, yes, but something like that was in Lauren Faust's plans. Whether or not that's a good thing is up for debate. And you might be confusing fanfics for what was said in series so far as Twilight's views are concerned.

It wouldn't be the first time that I've done that :)
I always had a theory that Blueblood was actually a badass and the hoity toity spoiled thing was an act and he really was a cunning and humble asset to Celestia.

If that's the case, then he clearly works very hard at projecting that image.
...holy crap, now I'm comparing him to the image Bruce Wayne projects to keep people from thinking that he's Batman...
