Periodically, I get a message from a fan or reader saying they'd like to give one of my stories a specific treatment, be it a reading, or translation into another language. Almost all the time, I'm very hands-off with whatever they choose to do, and I tell them to go for it; I've already been humbled by them asking first.
So that's what I'm doing first; asking.
In the twelve years I've been posting fanfiction online, this is the 3rd time I've used someone else's characters or setting. The first time was of course, The Cupcake Chronicles in 2011. I had no reliable way of getting in touch with Sgt Sprinkles as Cupcakes was only posted as a Google Doc with no contact information, so I just went for it.
The 2nd time was kudzuhaiku's OC pegasus Noctilucent, and his setting of Mustang Springs, merging them with Kaidan's Mistress Do Well setting and events in 2014. I asked permission from both and they both granted it.
And now, with a borderline crazy burst of creative energy last night, I have crafted this:
I've shot off a message to Shinodage, and knowing how immensely popular he is, I'm kind of hoping it doesn't take him too long to reply. I know there's a handful of other DVJ fics posted on here, but I always think it's polite to ask first.
Here's hoping I can give you the opening Soon(TM).
