A Trivial Pursuit Reaction and Description

A Trivial Pursuit, episode 16 of Season 9, written by Brittany Jo Flores. If I were to summarize this episode in just a couple words I think I would say... meme faces. This one is chocked full of 'em, as well as not so subtle references to shipping. I'd also say the writer (who also wrote Once Upon a Zeppelin), as well as the storyboard artists probably had a lot of fun with this one :)

Ponycon plans & stuff · 6:38pm Jan 29th, 2019

Been a while since I updated anything here... feeling a bit, I dunno, blank towards things lately. Not sure what it is ^^

With the idea that things're coming to close for certain things like Bronycon and possibly FiM, it's got some folks upset... some seem almost in a panic mode, like people were with Tumblr. It's okay, but I think I'm over-saturated with this type of drama. Sufficing to say I felt I might've needed a break, which is fine.

Things're still turning with stories and planned events, though. Coping With Limitations through Pony will hopefully go through this year for two panels at Bronycon, plus we've got another project that's in the works. I'm also working on The Bubbly Mare. I dunno, it's trickly lately putting ideas to paper, especially for longer-running things. All I wanna do is color, play a video game, watch a movie like Ice Age, or something. At least the ideas are there and come out now and then... that's a good sign creativity isn't dead, which is a plus ^^

Looking back at the above, I think I might be a little burnt out and need to get out more. I suppose that happens to everyone every once and a while. Sucks, but at least it means time'll help. I'm also still adjusting to a fairly massive life change from just last year, which continues to open up possibilities previously unknown to me and lets me know I'm helping inspire others... but even there I feel kinda blank now and again. It's kind of an emotional roller coaster ride in places, though, at the same time. At worst I'm dealing with a little depression, possibly. Had a doctor's appointment not too long ago, so at least I know it's not chemical. I really felt I was headed towards disaster up to a year ago, but things took an unexpected turn and I'm glad for that... think I might be letting out all the bad feelings now that it's over with, though.

Last year Coping With Limitations got recorded by a fan in the audience, and I'm super, duper grateful that happened as it seems no other form of recording occurred. There was a group of us on stage, I'm the guy on the far right with the glasses, big ears, and mock-work shirt that says "Waterpipe Technician". This was a lot of fun to put on:

I was so exhausted and nervous the whole con that I wanted to lay down afterwards. I think I wandered into the vender's hall, but right before I got off the stage I was approached by some people in the audience who let me know what they thought of my part in the presentation... it's was all quite complementary, which was kinda cool.

In the state I am right now, feeling a bit bleh, I think what's important is people working out their emotions have things to work towards. It gives a focus for the energy and helps get one out of the funk while making sure he or she's not working towards making it worse. I don't feel this way just in the fandom... I'm feeling anxious and feeling weird with family, friends, at work, and just in general. Occasionally it goes away, though ^^

To offset this I've been working out a bit more and practicing the martial arts. Doing something productive outside of planning and writing beats sitting still and feeling blank.

I don't know what the future's going to bring for Bronycon or other pony conventions once MLP:FiM ends, or even if it's going to end after Season 9. I feel Faust was most responsible for some of the ideas that cemented MLP and helped first inspire others to be drawn towards the fandom. The fandom's grown a lot, and has become more diverse as time's gone on. I think it's going to be hard to recapture that, especially since it feels like Faust put a lot of very special energy into establishing themes early on that're so cool... but this is just one person's opinion, though, and, if there is a next gen as there probably will be, it may just use a different type of energy to suck our imagination in with. I will say that I feel MLP's evolved in ways that Faust probably didn't intend, to the point it could easily become a spin-off of itself focusing on different characters, but watching the newer episodes... while settings and focus have changed, it feels like the people behind MLP are really putting a lot of thought into creating the episodes. It still feels very thoughtful, and I think that's a good chunk of what draws people in.

Before I jet, another way I kill my down moods... comedy:

Rowan Atkinson and Monty Python, with musical interludes by Pete Townschen and John Williams... IMO, this is perfection. Had my entire family on the floor.

Anywho, peace

Great reflections journal. I, too, have often thought about life after pony. Part of me is wondering how my unseeing eye will come to enjoy new things that I have no frame of reference for. However I know I'll have plenty of help making great images for whatever new and inspiring comes along. :)

It's interesting to hear of how everyone is responding to the finale of G4. I kind of see it like a lot of great inspirations. This being that it will live on. If seeing characters from 80s and 90s cartoons showing up in stories and art decades after they were aired, or even a 'thing'' is a sign of what will be for Twilight Sparkle and pals, I know the spirit will live on-and-on.

Something else I think of is how I started with G1 and had to be brought back to even give G4 a chance. This gave me a chance to discover a great show while also getting loads of inspiration from watching many episodes from the original, MLP Tales, and G3. It's surprising how well some previous iterations show all the signs of creative development prior to reaching a 'Tipping Point'. In this case "Friendship Is Magic" is what put Pony truly on the map and has cemented it in the history books.

I think we can all draw inspiration from how Faust took 3 generations of a show to make the epic 4th. It reminds us that getting noticed for your talents and/or ideas can take a looooooong time BUT can happen as long as you don't give up. Lightning may not strike twice but the single crash of thunder will echo through the ages. :)

I think you, along with our other pals, will leave with Pony forever a part of our creative hearts. This will aid in the forging of our own ideas that can blossom into so much in so many ways.

Well put Yosh. Thanks, also, it cheered me up quite a bit. Can say for sure I'm not packing to leave, but there'll come a time when it's gunna be more tenable for most of us to do that. It's part of life, discovering new things and focusing more on them (heh, I said "moron"). Having said that...

I am glad my episode reflections are helping you better visualize what's been on the screen. I'm also super stoked to be working on the various projects.

It's a bit of a cliche to say no one knows what the future's gunna bring, but it's also quite true. We dunno, and that's okay. Looking at things like the Startrek, though, it's easy to see a possibility that FiM's going to be cherished by fans, new and old, even after it's gone... if not only for John Delancie.

Speaking of Startrek, man, I do hope Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner and Johnathan Franks have a part in the coming season(s). I can see Patrick Stewart playing a Hippogriff lord or Captain, Brent Spiner playing Mud Brair's older brother or father, and Johnathan Franks playing a mighty dragon... with Michael Dorn playing Scorpan, perhaps.
