Why!!!! Did they have Luna speak Shakespeare English? · 5:16pm Jan 7th, 2019
I have enough trouble with modern English grammar. Now I have to use Shakespeare’s English to be faithful to Luna in my story.
Almost want to hit the person that came up with it for Lunar Eclipse. I’m glad they dropped that gimmick in later episodes.
My problem is my story taking place before that Episode. Worst is I have some flashbacks to include.
Wait... How come in Shadow Play none of the past Ponies didn’t speak old English? Not one thee or thou from Starswirl.
I'd assume because it's that the period of English Luna speaks in (Which is more between Modern and Middle English than Old English, since Shakespearean English was a bit weird even in it's time) was reserved for nobility. Most of the common folk and minor nobility would speak in what we would consider close to a common modern British English vocabulary. But its also annoying as all heck to write for people who didn't study the period and poetry.
It also just takes practice :/ but I don't blame you for hating it.
So let it be, nothing needs to be changed. Let her tell it like it is. I'm just a fan of shakespeare's works, recently read about him, you can click over here if you want. Just take Romeo and Juliet, that's just something. I've also re-read Julius Caesar many times. This author's story is unique, all the more amazing that his story has survived to this day.
