I mentioned before I want to try and craft a more fleshed out adventure story that isn't just a one-shot. The issue I run into is that it's hard to stay within a scope that is doable. One idea I've had is to explore another pony species idea: an opposite to Kirins/Niriks. They transform when angry, so what about a species that transforms when sad? Not to get too deep about things or anything, but I feel like there's lots of potential there for an allegory to depression, and that's just the kind of light emotional impact I want to go for.
My name I came up for them are the Lirins/Nirils. Confusing I know, but I don't plan on mixing up the two species in the story much at all. Just a little at the beginning to explain things. Lirins transform into Nirils when they are overcome with sadness in the way that Kirins transform into Niriks when greatly angered, but the caveat here is that the transformation of Lirins is more easily permanent. I haven't gotten too much further than that basic idea, and feel free to take it and run with it if you want, but I figured I'd throw it out for fun. I've been thinking about writing an adventure story for the CMC that involves them making the journey to visit them, but I'm second guessing that and it might make better narrative sense to have the Mane 6 characters go instead, due to the more serious/grandiose nature of things.
i think it is a good idea.
Sounds interesting, and perhaps instead of dragon-unicorn hybrids, they were bat pony-fish hybrids or something. . . .

Are there any winged Kirin? I want to differentiate Lirin from Kirin but I also want them to be like Pegasi in that they can fly. Either way it's not too big a deal. Just trying to get some of my facts straight.
