Establishing who the main villain of "My Little Ponys' The Count of Monte Cristo" is. · 7:55pm Aug 31st, 2018
Ordinarily, and apparently by tradition, Fernand Mondego is the primary antagonist in the story of "The Count of Monte Cristo". And I guess I can see why that is: he's Edmond's main rival for the affections of Mercedes. And the 2002 film certainly made him into a nefarious adversary. He's basically everything opposite of Edmond Dantes. But from what I see, while some versions of him are interesting, I find the character a bit overused. Villefort is perfect where he stands in the story because of the impact he leaves. But let's not forget how Mondego ended up killing himself in the original story after his own exposure, and his family disowns him. I also think he was the second to die in the story, too, before Villefort and Danglars get their just deserts. Which makes me beg the question: why don't we have an adaptation which gives a more central focus on the villain of the 3/4 who started it all.
DANGLARS.
After all, it was HE who basically crafted the conspiracy as a whole. Despite how some films, and tv series depict him, Danglars was essentially the ring-leader of this conspiracy troupe'. He gathered, and recruited Mondego, and Caderousse. With the information he overheard during his voyage with Edmond, and their trip to Bonaparte's island which involved their captain's death, and the letter he asked Edmond to hold onto, he call on Villefort to make the prosecution, and deal much of the damage - though Villefort WAS about to clear edmond before he saw the letter, himself. So, essentially, that would make Danglars more of the primary antagonist than Mondego, wouldn't it?
I sure think so, which is why in my adaptation, he's not only plated by Tirek - but he IS the main villain of this story. The one who orchestrates everything that happens to Edmond/Shining, and ruins his life in every way. And then uses it to assume a high-ranking position of power with Equestria. Someone who could be quite influential in the world. HOWEVER....it's important to note that he won't be the one out of the 3 who gets redeemed. He is the TRUE foil of Shining, and the demonstration of what vengeance, and hate can do to ones'self. Trust me when I say there will be villain deaths......but they won't be 100% percent the same as they were in the original stories. But hey: that's how an adaptation works. A few changes will appear here, and there, but can be acceptable as long as the tone of the original is maintained.
And I hope you all can accept these changes. :)
