So, just in case you hadn't heard, the EU will be voting on the controversial and potentially dangerous Article 13 on 12 September. In case you don't remember from the last time this was an issue, this would require platforms to screen and remove copyrighted material from their pages. As you might guess, this would be an absolute travesty for fan culture at large. Worse still, it could very easily turn into a machine for censoring or suppressing speech on the Internet. So please, if you're in the EU, I strongly urge you to sign the petition at the bottom of this post and to speak out against the Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on copyright in the Digital Single Market. If you aren't part of the EU, but you value a free and open Internet, pass on the word. If we can work together, make ourselves heard, then we can stop this travesty before it begins. Remember, your voice matters.
