What Would You Do Differently? · 2:53pm Aug 9th, 2018

We all know how I'm writing this series (assuming you're reading it!), but how would you write this series differently if you were the author, rather than me? I still wish you could tag a series or an individual story.

We all know that I'd love to forget that Meltdown exists because of how it's handled and the implications of probably giving Equestria in this series nuclear weapons in addition to nuclear reactors, along with just the addition of such relatively advanced technology, but what about you?

Would you change things? Would you write the series differently? Would you make other ponies play a more important role? Less important? What quirks would you give characters?

I haven't yet read the story, but I can tell you that whatever you decided to do, I'd probably find a way to make the events unnecessarily dark in tone.

I wouldn't make it unnecessarily dark... if it was/is dark, then there's a reason for it... at least in this series.

You'd probably like Twidashforever's TiM series. I liked it on my first read through but I couldn't read it through a second time. :applecry:

If I wrote it I’d probably focus a little more on the mane 6, what they might have done, and things they may do in the future. Nothing brings friends together like a near death experience (probably, I assume so but I’m just guessing. Don’t really have personal experience with this sort of thing)

Also, I’d probably mention how the nuclear industry would change due to this event. It’s been a while since I read meltdown, but iirc nuclear reactors were a brand new technology, so it was probably similar to our reactors in the 50s or 60s. And reading about how it would change would be interesting. Of course this is kind of (completely) outside the scope of the story, going into nuclear reactor policies in a romance story is really stupid.

Really the previous paragraph would have to be a completely separate story apart from the main series. And more like a documentary then a story. Really it would probably be a terrible idea.

Orion if you don't really like nuclear reactors from meltdown, just make is so all the plans for the reactor were locked away in the facility itself so the were destroyed in the 'meltdown'. Knowing Twi though she probably have memorized the plans for the reactor, not that she would want to remake them anyway. Just my 50 cents worth.

Nothing brings friends together like a near death experience

I feel as if you have made a grave mistake by saying this.

"Nothing brings friends together like a good 'ol fashioned near-death experience! Alright, girls! Who'se with me?"

It reminds me of "The plan ranked right up there with 'My leg has a cramp in it so let's cut it off.'"

Also, I’d probably mention how the nuclear industry would change due to this event. Firstly, I could always make it a side story. There's a few potential side stories in this series. What Luna did to Chrysalis... Chrysalis making her drones... How the Nuclear Industry changed...

Secondly, and I'm not 100% sure about this, but supposedly our reactors (PWRs) were designed for nuclear submarines rather than on-land application, so when we brought them on land, we ended up with silly problems like meltdowns because they weren't surrounded by water everywhere. As of late there's been a major increase in development of different nuclear technologies, including new reactor designs which are meant to be inherently safe (without risk of meltdown in case of a power failure). So most likely, this would, in universe, lead to safer reactors that were designed to be more inherently safe. As an example, I would say for starters, they wouldn't put the SCRAM trigger in the room with the core, on the wall across from the entrance. You know, that way whoever triggers it doesn't have to get a massive dose of lethal radiation to the everywhere.

Really the previous paragraph would have to be a completely separate story apart from the main series. And more like a documentary then a story. Really it would probably be a terrible idea.

It could probably be told through an exchange of letters (or emails!) in addition to a documentary. It could be a bunch of letters between CEO's, engineers, scientists, and regulators (and maybe one or more princess).

Of course if I were to write this it'd have to be a comedy, otherwise, it'd probably be pretty crappy.

The plans wouldn't have been all destroyed. For one, there are more power plants than just that one, and it'd be incredibly stupid (from an in-universe perspective!) if they only had 1 set of plans for nuclear reactors, and they were just in that one power plant. It's like, evil villain doomsday weapon levels of stupidity. :rainbowlaugh: Besides if they have shield spells designed to block radiation, I suspect the nuclear industry is actually rather far along by this point and such...

Twi could probably make a fusion reactor if she wanted, given her alicorn magic.

I never really went into what the power plants were for, did I? Well, the obvious part of it is for generating power, but additionally, they can convert electricity into magic, and probably vice versa. But of course, then the question becomes, is an alicorn more powerful than a nuclear reactor? Which sounds kind of like a meme... but the short answer is yes. Or most likely.

My good sir I concede, I have been out witted and must exile myself to the corner of shame.
