A moment to remember an actor

    W. Morgan Sheppard was an actor who appeared in many genre movies and TV series. Star Trek, Doctor Who, Babylon 5, even anime voice acting. However, the role I best remember him for was in the 1980's TV series Max Headroom, where he played Blank Reg. Reg was an aging punk rocker running a tiny pirate TV station from a caravan parked on the outskirts of the city. He was one of the best characters

Merry Christmas, Everyone! No, I'm Not Dead!

Well, *that* month was hellish. Let's try not to do that again.

    Hi everyone,

I'm alive, the car is fixed, the mortgage paid, and bank account looking a bit more positive. Let's hope I don't have to go through quite so much stress for the next few months at least. Which brings us back to the question I'm sure is on the minds of my small cadre of loyal readers:

When the heck is the next chapter coming?

    What's the story, JD?

    Hi everyone,

So, you're probably wondering what's taking so damn long with the next chapter. Well, to put it simply, life happened. I ran into a money crunch combined with a bunch of new expenses. I've actually taken to driving a ride share to earn extra cash, and it was working out really well...till the AC compressor in my car blew.

    Yes, I'm still alive.

    Hi everyone.

I know you all haven't heard from me in a bit, but rest assured that I haven't dropped off the face of the Earth. I just had a whole bunch of grownup problems hit in the last couple of months and it's left me no time to do any writing.

Just hang on a bit longer. Once I get through chapter 8, it'll get a lot easier for me in terms of moving the story along.

Well, for the first time in weeks, I'll have time to sit down and actually write, as opposed to driving around and thinking about it. There's so much I want Twilight, Starlight, and Lulamoon to go through, but there's this wall separating me from that and that wall is this chapter. I think what was really holding me back (aside from physical exhaustion every day) was that I was still feeling my way toward the big emotional turns in it. See, I know how the chapter starts and I've known how this chapter will end ever since I published the first one back in November. The problem I was having until recently was in determining how exactly Starlight and Lula make their decision that lands them where they are at the end. But, at last, I figured out what their mindsets would be when the decision is made.

All that remains to do is for me to sit down and mine the words from my brain. That restarts in earnest tonight. The plan is to give you all a finished chapter before the month is out. And I think, once this one is done and dusted, there won't be another delay quite this long.

So, thanks for sticking with me.

Oh, and we passed 1500 views and are closing in on 1600, so please, ask me anything you like. And as much as I enjoy the silly joke questions, I'd really love to hear from you about where you think this story's going and any thoughts you have on it. Just please, don't ask if it'll have your pet fetish in it, because unless that's just plain old age regression, the answer will probably be no.

Now I'll leave you with this wonderful illustration by one of my favorite Japanese pony artists:

As much as I love the undiluted cuteness that is filly Starlight, filly Trixie continues to grow on me. Seeing this picture gave me a flash of an idea for a possible future story: in a world where Celestia used the Elements of Harmony to calm Luna down without needing to banish her, the school for gifted unicorns is run by both sisters. And as Celestia takes young Twilight to be her protege, Luna takes Trixie as hers. And so would begin a friendship and rivalry between the schools of the sun and the moon that would probably lead to an obvious ripoff of Harry Potter.

Still, it'd be cute as hell.

I know plenty of dead artist you could poke with a stick

I just consider your poking me with a stick a sign that you care if I'm alive or dead.
