Teen Titans Go! To the Movies! · 11:30pm Jul 26th, 2018

As a kid, I remember watching the original Titans show when it came on. And like a majority of you enjoyed the series. It's not the DCAU, but its own unique flavor helped drive its success. I've seen the DC shorts with them in their Chibi forms (still in the style of the show), and found them quite amusing. Then came the revival... Which pissed a lot of you guys off. I didn't mind it too much, as long as it had several of the original cast (Tara Strong was doing several funnier things, Greg Cipes was voicing Michaelangelo in the 2012 Turtles series, and Hynden Walch also voicing Princess Bubblegum). But as I became isolated from television in my studies, I kinda forgot about the show. And now with this movie, perhaps the pinnacle of this hated series and has gained rather favorable reviews. I, who share my opinion on multiple films, decide to put myself to the test.

....

It's not too bad. They fill up with many jokes regarding the DC Universe (kinda like the Lego Batman Movie), including the rather unknown group Challengers of the Unknown. Considering I love the voice cast of the original and found them to be the saving graces here, it's quite amusing to stretch the characters they play. Tara Strong can drop some sick lyrics as Raven, and I've never heard Hynden Walch go that high a voice as Starfire (she does so on a few occasions). It does go into a bit of a musical route, but whether that annoys you or not is up to you.

It's still animated in Flash unlike the contemporary MLP, which had its movie animated with Toon Boom. Funny enough, they do show the DC movie logo in the style of GO! So props to that. Before seeing this movie, I was rather worried about Deathstroke being voiced by Will Arnett of Bojack Horsman fame and Lego Batman in the previous year and is also the producer of this film. He's... Actually okay. He's not Ron Perlman, but when he goes into a deep, slow voice he can sound menacing. However, the films light-hearted tone prevents him from doing that for long.

Do I recommend it? Well... If you have seen enough of the current show, you might be too sore to watch it. But if you're like me and have been out of the loop for so long, it's an okay flick. Not as good as Lego Batman, but it's okay in my book. Also the DC Super Hero Girls short by Lauren Faust herself is also funny.

P.S. There's a mid-credits scene.
