Really?
For some reason I thought that season hiatuses lasted longer than a single month. :rainbowhuh:

I HOPE NO ONE LEAKS THIS SEASON EARLY... :twilightangry2:

4901051
It's only a matter of time :twilightoops:

4901053
I'll get my gun ready, along with continuing my emails to Hasbro begging them to beef up their security.:facehoof: :rainbowlaugh:

4901056
As long as they don't include the word "Sparkle" in their password anymore :rainbowwild:

4901059
They don't. bad passwords are my job! :rainbowlaugh:

4901061
I dun believe that. I can't figure out your password yet :pinkiecrazy:

Do you have a date and time? I can't find it on current TV listings.

4901066
You were actually pretty close last time, if the data is accurate. You were only off by one letter. :duck:

4901085
Oh... Equestria Daily. Only the most trustworthy source of valid and accurate information. :ajbemused:
*cough* sarcasm *cough*

Yaaaay!

I have need for ponies!

4901088:twilightsmile:
Ah, go easy on 'em, the promo video looks legit enough

4901090
I don't trust any large media groups, they're more intent on looking for stories than facts to support anything.
So, no, I ain't going easy on them. :rainbowlaugh:

4901095
I have a history of harassing Pinkie in particular, Sis. :rainbowlaugh:

4901096
You punched me with feels. RIP Gravity Falls :raritycry:
4901097
Aww :fluttershbad:

4901100
Awww, I don't think it's over completely. After all, Hirsch did say that he was leaving open the possibility of future revival series.

4901100
Or did you forget about those little stories I write..? :pinkiecrazy:

4901105
Yes, that's true. Man, that was a fine show indeed.

4901106
But we're supposed to hurt characters in our stories, we do it out of love...right??

4901107
One of the best cartoons of this generation, certainly.

4901107
... sure, let's go with that. :pinkiecrazy:

4901108
Agree 100%

4901111
I believe it so :pinkiecrazy:

4901108
It doesn't exactly have much competition.

4901113
Well, there's Gravity Falls, Rick and Morty, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Star vs. The Forces of Evil, Gumball, MLP: FiM, The Regular Show, Bravest Warriors; the list is longer than you'd think. We've has a boom of good cartoons over the last decade or so, a revival of a genre previously thought dead and drab.

4901115
As I said, not much competition at all. I counted five different overrated shows in that list alone.

4901085
Awesome! If I can get another episode in before Bronycon, I will be a happy man.

4901117

4901115
Just to throw my two cents in here, Gravity Falls was a major dissapointment to me. I had so many people tell me I should watch it and how awesome it was, but when I finally watched a few episodes... Eh. The jokes didn't really land and the environments and voice acting wasn't really my cup of tea.

Now... Kim Possible and The Weekenders? Those were some top-flight cartoons. Then again, that was early-mid 2000's. Gosh, being 25 makes me feel so old, now.

4901117
Really? Because, from a writing standpoint, those shows were all rather sound, with interesting twists, well-maintained continuity, in-depth history and style, as well as valuable character development. Well, aside from Regular Show and Gumball, which aren't much in the way of writing, but are just good shows because they make us smile. But hey, we're all entitled to our own opinions, friend. To me, a long time cartoon buff, I take a look at the decline of the cartoons from the ninety's and then I look at those titles there, and I see a drastic, monumental improvement. Steps like that are what's needed, to better entertainment as a whole.

- Quillian B. Inkheart

4901125
Heh... I'm 26, going on 27, so I've got you beat.

But yes, those were amazing cartoons in their own right. I suppose the value of Gravity Falls comes in it's depth. You think you know everything, then a little research reveals another layer of secrets. Hidden codes, innuendo, backwards messages; Gravity Falls is as much about the adventure of learning it's secrets as it is watching the show. That's why, unfortunately, now that it's been out for a time, it's lost some of it's umph, if you will, since people have delved it's deepest depths and have uncovered most of it's secrets, if not all of them. Now, you just google things to find them, and it lacks the mystery it once had. I was a part of the group cracking ciphers and decoding hidden messages, so that was one of the things that made the show so awesome for me.

- Quillian B Inkheart

4901125
Kim Possible, yes. Oh, I miss that show.

4901131
It does boil down to personal preference. I found shows like Steven Universe, Adventure Time and The Regular Show to be ultimately pointless: using cheap political and emotional "points" to try and milk whatever they can out of their audiences. Rick and Morty is to cartoons what Deadpool is to film, and Gumball... eh, it's good, but really overrated.

~Signature here because we're doing that for some reason

4901144
So, because a show makes a socioeconomic comparison with current issues, it's pointless and milking it's audience? Even when it's done subtly, as in the case of the earlier episodes of Adventure Time? Sorry, but I can't agree with that statement. In my eyes, a show directed at children that opens their eyes to the issues affecting the adult world of today is a valuable thing. It's education in a way that no amount of schooling will compare to; it educates children about current issues in a way that they find engaging and interesting. Looking at it only from the perspective of an adult enjoying those shows is nearsighted, my friend. Look at the bigger picture with them.

Admittedly, Gumball isn't anything revolutionary, but it does a good job making people smile. Sometimes, a bit of mindless joy is what you need in your life, and Gumball delivers that in droves. As for Rick and Morty, I don't know if I'd agree. The continuity in that show is subtle, the social commentary of certain issues is spot on. I'd compare it to a more mild and thought-provoking South Park than Deadpool, though it doesn't really stand up to South Park's level, obviously.

And, just to clear the air, I put a signature on most long posts. It's just a thing I do; don't feel obligated to do it yourself, or get trollzy about it.

- Quillian B. Inkheart

4901139
That might be my problem, then. I tend to watch cartoons for a quick laugh or funny/cute moments here and there. Looking much beyond that is something I don't have a whole lot of time or patience for. I imagine, based on what you told me, it definitely holds a lot of value for a lot of people. I'm probably just not in its audience.

Honestly, I don't really look super deep into MLP, either. That's probably why most of my fanfics tend to capture character emotions and problems as opposed to exploring the world and universe as a whole. Gosh...

...I'm kinda boring when its put like that, lol.

4901163
Hah! Not boring, just a different flavor of interests. Not a single thing wrong with that.

Yeah, Gravity Falls was more about the conspiracy and secrets than the show itself. I mean, come on, the main villain was literally the All-Seeing Eye of the Illuminati with a top hat and cane.

Nothe trying to be rude but is the next chapter of daughters of glimmer coming out soon?

4901153

So, because a show makes a socioeconomic comparison with current issues, it's pointless and milking it's audience?

No, I have no problem with presenting social issues objectively in entertainment. But implicitly telling children what side of said issue they should be on isn't the job of anyone in the entertainment industry, that is the job of the child's own parents/guardians.
Steven Universe is especially pandering in this regard, though the fanbase of that show speaks to its effects rather well.

4901172
Eh, I think we'll need to agree to disagree on that one. Adventure Time didn't really force people onto a side. I haven't finished Regular Show, so I can't speak for that, and Steven Universe... I think they're tackling something difficult, a bigotry that is centuries - millennia even - in the making. It's a change that is coming to the world, and it's only a matter of time before it's a common reality. Progress cannot be halted, as with the turning of the Earth, and the rising of the sun.

Children are still free to pick a side on these issues, regardless of what the show says; they can decide to simply stop watching the show. The shows present the issues to them, setting them up for facing them in the real world. Yes, it shows a particular side of it, in the case of Steven Universe, and that's not wrong. It's a rally flag to those who once never had anything to rally to. It's an eye opener, in a society where many would rather that the majority stay blind. I find that I rather respect that.

But again, different strokes for different folks... Ye Gods, that saying always sounds so wrong to me. :rainbowderp:

- Quillian B. Inkheart

4901179

Progress cannot be halted, as with the turning of the Earth, and the rising of the sun.

Progress is also in the eye of the beholder. Where some see a brighter future, others look and see history repeating itself in a more dramatic, fascist and dangerous way.

Children are still free to pick a side on these issues, regardless of what the show says; they can decide to simply stop watching the show.

The shows present the issues to them, setting them up for facing them in the real world.

I'm not sure you know how children's minds actually work. They understand politics and socioeconomic issues as well as they understand the complexities of Advanced Calculus. They watch cartoons because it feeds their imaginations and entertains them, in reality it would be the parents who decide whether their child continues to watch the show or not. Because children usually don't catch the subtle political points that are being welded into their subconscious via repeated exposure.

Yes, it shows a particular side of it, in the case of Steven Universe, and that's not wrong. It's a rally flag to those who once never had anything to rally to.

If it's a flag to rally to, then make the show for the adults who agree with it. Tackling issues like sexuality with children is something that is traditionally done by the parents for a good reason: because it's for the parents who have watched the child develop to judge whether or not the individual child is ready to have that subject explained to them, and to help guide and raise the child in the way they see fit. When the child is old enough to make their own decisions rationally and reasonably without manipulation, then they can choose whatever side they want.

It's an eye opener, in a society where many would rather that the majority stay blind. I find that I rather respect that.

Given how loudly and vehemently that everything the show stands for is pushed into the public eye, can you really say with a straight face that anyone is blind to said issues these days?
Even so, can you seriously say it's right for a stranger to decide how your child thinks and what side they take?
It's not a matter of whether the issues are publicly known, it's a matter of indoctrination. It's the same reason you have to be a certain age to vote: children are typically inherently naive and innocent, and have no reason to be thrust into a certain political view.

But like you said, perhaps it's best to agree to disagree.

4901198
My friend, I majored in Psychology. I understand the inner workings of the human mind better than most. Child or adult, one fact remains static; times change. Things that were taboo fade away into obscurity. To make a valuable point, by your standards, Loony Tunes is also indoctrination, as Bugs Bunny frequently cross-dressed and kissed men. It was filled with violence, sexual innuendo, and yet it was not only one of the most beloved cartoon enterprises to ever exist, it also built a legacy that is still going on to this day, though I confess, the remakes are pretty much garbage. Everything after Tiny Toons was questionable.

Steven Universe looks at sexuality in an adult manner, showing it as a part of life and living. Slowly but surely, open sexuality is becoming a part of this world. Let me show you something, if you'd please. Click here, real quick. Do you honestly believe this map was accurate twenty years ago? Fifty? A hundred? Equality is catching, my friend. It truly scares me that there are still places in this world where you can receive the death penalty for coupling with someone of the same gender.

But I've gone very far off field. Perhaps blind wasn't the proper word. If I had to choose one, I'd need to pick one from your own arsenal: indoctrinated. Society felt people should think a certain way, so generation after generation were brainwashed into believing a certain code and creed were the right one, being stifled of their own beliefs. Governments in particular feel that they know better than their populace, and are more than happy to smother any free-thinkers in the crib - metaphorically speaking; I'm fairly certain they don't partake in infanticide - to keep their political correctness in tact.

Now, I feel kinda bad, because we flooded Summer's blog post with this debate. :unsuresweetie: It wasn't my intention, but I do love a good discussion, now and then. I think we should either move it to PMs, a Forum, or call it quits; I doubt Summer really cares to have all this cluttering her space. Agreed?

- Quillian B. Inkheart

4901206
Tell you what, you're an interesting fellow with a more relaxed approach than I'm used to dealing with in these types of discussions. I appreciate and respect that greatly. If you wish to continue talking about this topic, you may feel free to move it to PMs. But I do agree that this isn't the proper place.

4901246
Thank you very much, friend. I'm no troll, and I rather love a good debate. It's good to find a like-minded individual in those aspects; the internet is to swamped with the other, less reputable sort. Apologies again, Summer! Got kinda wrapped up in the moment! :rainbowlaugh:

What episode is this? I thought season 8 continued on August 4th.

4901257
It does, but the episode"Yakity Sax" is scheduled to air this Friday as part of Discovery Family's "Summer Surprises".

4901246

4901248

Reasonable debates are few, I'm thankful for this 🙌

4903240
Well, thank you very much. :pinkiehappy:
