The Psychology of Burning Star's "Other Selves" · 3:19am Jun 10th, 2018
(READ MY STORIES BEFORE THIS!)
As many of my friends have been asking to explain WTH is up with Burning Star's sudden 180 of personality from a grumpy edgelord megee (as one of my friends called him) to a sympathizing, understanding pony, here is why.
His mind is finally balancing out.
Let me explain what this means, and what I plan for him in the future.
Balance of mind and body: While Burning Star is a paragon among ponies, his mind has never been the most stable... as evidenced by a few of his lines.
"And when the ponies of my village asked for help for Celestia, we recieved NOTHING. That is why I have a grudge against Celestia and Luna... they could have destroyed the Changelings, but they did nothing..."
Dark Star of Shadows, Chapter 9
So it’s ridiculous that we’ll be trying to help and warn them now! All they would do is send you three and us out there AGAIN to fix this problem. They are no longer the warrior Princesses. I was told as a foal that they were a proud fighting force, not... this prissy mess of politics and policies that are so wrapped up in making compromises that they can't even get Up and deal with a threat to Equestria! Where I came from, My village was ruled by the strongest pony, which was a Unicorn by the name of Stone Spike. I quickly found out about his connection to Celestia after he escaped with his family. I left his family the funds they needed to escape Equestria, but I incinerated that spineless pony for relying on her... I swore that day no pony will be safe from my wrath as long as Celestia has a connection with them."
Sundered Universes, Chapter 4
As you can see, his sheer animosity towards Celestia is pretty obvious. Well... he thinks it is earned. Is it earned? No, not really.
In reality, Burning Star is made up of two sides of his personality, a side of ultimate good, and a side of ultimate evil.
Dawn Star, the side of ultimate good.
And Dark Star, the side of ultimate evil.
Together these two make up the Burning Star we all know and love, well a few people know and love.
He has what I consider a self made mental condition, called Excessive Emotion and Action Disassociation Disorder (E.E.A.D.D) (Not official condition)
He also has P.T.S.D, which manifests in his manic flashes of shouting, although I do not write it in due to my own P.T.S.D.
Burning Star can Often see flashbacks to his childhood, vivid experiences of bullying and maiming, and the ponies who helped him left in his darkest hour, when he burned down his home Firebrand Village.
What this means is that his emotions are a lot more intense than that of a pony, since he kinda grew up in the wilds and instead of a home atmosphere, except when he met Sombra, who taught him Dark Magic which runs off powerful emotions, which he had a lot of thanks to his mental issues. It also means that his response to help is very hostile thanks to his abandonment.
Think about this, he is a being that has lived in isolation for most of his life, has a massive power over fire, a very short temper, and a general dislike, even grudge against his own kind because of his abuse.
He funneled this into creating Dark Star, a powerful, but insane and mentally broken demon.
And Dawn Star, a cold and calculating but somehow caring at the same time.
What he doesn't realize is that he needs to accept his two halves, instead of just showing one half or the other.
We will see how it turns out in the Future chapter of Sundered Universes, Chapter 21, What it Means To Be Pony.
Yeah, this can make it pretty clear just what was up with the direction he took. You did a good job summarizing it all, and making it clear and concise.
And I didn't know you had PTSD! That's a new shock.
