I'd Say I Got Straight A's... · 11:23pm Jun 1st, 2018
...but that would imply I was straight! badum-tish!
Also, I didn't get straight A's. Stupid physics.
I digress, however. The point is, I am asexual, aromantic, and very probably agender. I don't think I have a gender, and that strikes me as the sort of thing someone would know about. Since this is the first day of Pride Month, I thought I would take this opportunity to clear up some common questions and comments about asexuality and all the other "a" identities.
FAQs
So how come you're asexual/aromantic/agender?
Well, I can't speak for anyone but myself, of course, but I donated my sexuality to Captain Jack Harkness, traded my romance for a handful of magic beans, and fought my gender in a duel to the death. Interesting story, that. I was armed only with a venemous snake.
Do all asexuals like cake?
Not all. But I do.
So are you like a plant?
No. If I were like a plant, I would be miserable because I'm allergic to pollen and hate the outdoors.
You can't be asexual, you don't reproduce by mitosis.
First of all, sometimes words have more than one meaning. Otherwise, it would be much more terrifying if your nose ran and your feet smelled. Second of all, no I don't, but wouldn't it be cool if I did?
You must be attracted to something.
This is true. Magnets have a strange effect on me, for instance.
So, is it true that all asexuals are secretly unicorns?
No. Some of us are dragons.
Okay, I like to be goofy about my identity. But now it is time for the serious time of seriousness. No. Seriously. A-identity people hear a lot of nonsense in their daily lives, mostly centering around "but everyone loves something" or "but you have to have a gender!"
My two answers to those are generally "I do. Doctor Who" and "I used to, but then I dropped it down a storm drain when I was six." The facetious answers are my way of biting back against what can be some really rude or personal questions. I've left some of the rudest off of here, mostly because I couldn't think of any witty retorts to them. The worst part is, these are the sorts of questions that come from both outside and inside the queer community. There are people who feel that aces aren't "queer enough". I've never met any personally, but I've seen them online, and they are rubbish.
Woof! That was some heavy stuff, so let's finish off a little lighter. I am way ahead of schedule for publishing my stories this week! I thought I would only get out one chapter total, but instead, I have one chapter of Friendship 101 and two for It's a Kind of Magic. Expect more chapters of It's a Kind of Magic next week, but Friendship 101 is taking a little longer. Hope you all enjoy!

*nods* So you like cake. Got it. Making a note.
