Random Interesting Facts About Meltdown and Reaction · 6:13pm Apr 22nd, 2018

Or, at the very least, what I've considered canon for the story. This may be very unrealistic... considering more than a few things which are questionable about the science behind this.

Alright, so the one thing we don't talk about regarding this series is Meltdown and the fact that they have nuclear reactors. We just don't talk about this. Reasons? Why is this a thing? Seriously? That's a great regret of mine. Why did I choose this? Also, this implies that Equestria has nuclear weapons. All in favor of never talking about this?

Secondly (and the main purpose of this post), the dose of radiation Twilight is supposed to have been canonically exposed to is, at least from what I've thought about it (and more or less decided on in my head) is the range of 25-29 grays. That is a lethal dose that will kill in short order. This is also probably incredibly realistic since it raises a ton of questions. If you know much about nuclear science, then you might know why (or perhaps I don't know as much as I think I do). After all, Twilight was exposed for how long? She was in the core room for what, all of 10-15 seconds? Although sure, she could have been exposed prior, when she was cutting the door open, but still. That is absolutely insane. She probably should have just died from the heat. That is intense radioactivity. On top of this, what the heck were they using in that core? Seriously. That like has to be magically enhanced uranium (super nukes anyone? Although considering Celestia's power, perhaps it shouldn't be surprising, but that's kinda scary...). Also, the design of that reactor core room is abhorrent. Why, do you ask? They put the lever on the opposite side of the room. That has got to be a design flaw if there ever was one. On a related note, the fact that Twilight didn't/couldn't use her magic on it implies that there either are magic resistant materials or that the core room had a suppression field or something (although Twilight still carried the Geiger counter in her magic).

I regret Meltdown. I hope you've enjoyed these random facts. If you're wondering why I'm sharing this, I'm doing research on radiation for a paper, so I thought I'd share this.

I'm probably overthinking Meltdown. Although I am the author, so perhaps that makes sense? I've given this series a lot of thought, after all, I love it and put my heart into it. I hope you can see that when you read it...

It’s been a while since I’ve read meltdown, so maybe I’m forgetting something (or maybe just a misconception of what happened), but if there was some sort of leak, it’s possible that the whole area was affected, so while she got the most in the control room, she also got smaller amounts while arriving and leaving that added up to the whole lethal amount.

Or maybe ponies in general have significantly less radiation resistance than humans do, so while an alicorn has a high radiation resistance compared to a pony, maybe it’s similar to, or even less than, a human.

Then again ponies appear to be built like tanks, what with having anvils dropped on them, slamming into the ground at high speeds with minimal injury, or even being completely unfazed by the rib breaking machine that is pinkie’s hugs.

I mean, you see in episodes where they slam their faces into tables out of fustration, and remain completely unhurt. I’m pretty sure if I slammed my face as hard as they do I’d probably break my nose.

But maybe radiation is their one major weakness, the only thing not in their defensive repertoire. Who knows, you’re the author, you make the rules.

As for nuclear weapons, Equestria is a naturally peaceful environment and they may have just overlooked weaponising nuclear-ness(???). (Or Tia said NYOOOO!)

Also I never thought of any of this till you mentioned it XD

Hopefully, you found this either interesting or enlightening.

As for them having nukes... No comment. Although most likely not. At least until/unless I decide otherwise. :rainbowdetermined2:
