While I have no qualm with monster movies, this felt more of a cash-in to me. Without the guidance of Del Toro, the story is rather weak, and suffers many of the syndromes of many sequels.

Anyway, 10 years pass since the Rift is closed, and the world is slowly recovering, though there are still a few cities now becoming slums. I personally hoped that with the kaiju gone, the idea would be that the nations around the Pacific would harvest Jaeger parts, and make their own WMDs. For a while, that seems to be flowing, a little girl was able to make a Jaeger the size of Bumblebee, and a company made plans for automated drones ("Drones can be hacked." argues one). But after halfway through the movie, it's found that someone was using kaiju parts in manmade Jaegers and that person is Newt; but only because after too much drifting in a kaiju brain is he taken over by the Precursors. And lo and behold, the first shipment brings about the Kiryu Effect that is easily stopped, but not without bringing in a few high-class Proper Kaiju.

... If it at least means anything, it might've sparked a little idea for my Swan Song story.

However, the tiebreaker seemed forced. Isle of Dogs is supposed to be released tomorrow, but none of the theaters in the Kansas City area, nor a theater as far away as Massachusetts is screening it.

"We don't know why, but we didn't get the film." answers from one of the staff members.

It felt like I was cheated, but I am not gonna stand by until I find a reason why. If you can, check your movie theater screen times tomorrow, and tell me if Isle of Dogs is playing or not.

Edit: Just got word that IOD will be released nationwide in April instead...
