Surprised it was still playing after two months... Weird.
Anyway, compared to the very disaster that is "The Emoji Movie" (I haven't seen "The Star" and probably won't), this is actually not too bad. It's not the best film, but even some of the books do have some faults to a modern reader (cousin-cousin marriage for instance). It's a modernization of the books, but they don't use fourth wall jokes that much. They do use the other characters such as Pigling and Mr. Fox, but only sparingly. On occasion, traditional animation is used in the style of the books.
After the long-winded battle comes a close with Old Mcgregor's passing, it becomes more of a "jealousy ruins all" story. But it's still entertaining, more so compared to Sony's previous works (I don't find "Hotel Transylvania" to be their worst works, though it's clear that they should let Genndy have complete control).
So, my Spring Break comes to a close... unless the talks of a rain and snow shower become a reality throughout tomorrow..." In the meantime, take care.
