Equestrian City - Mistress Mayhem · 3:00am Feb 12th, 2018

Sassy Saddles was a business manager for several different businesses before finally landing a stable position with Rarity Belle. She quickly showed both a stunning sense of fashion coupled with a head for marketing as she helped Rarity enter the fashion world. Partially attributed to the success of her first shop, Rarity and Sassy became close friends as they opened new shops across the city, each as successful as the last.

As time went on, jealousy began to eat inside of Sassy, coupled with insecurity. Eventually she began to work against the wishes of her partner, who was still making most of her orders by hand at the time. While Rarity was busy with work, Sassy was taking credit for most of the dresses and other items coming out of the shop. As with most deception, it was discovered and the two had a very rapid falling out with Rarity dissolving their contracts and turning to her only other long lasting associate, Coco Pommel, as her only source of trusted help. It was during this time that the successful corporate heir Silver Spoon, approached the team of Rarity and Coco proposing a deal that would catapult them all forward into the limelight of all business ventures small and large, leaving Sassy in the dust of betrayal.

True to herself as always, Rarity forgave Sassy for her deception eventually and her Generosity continued when she gave her a small division of her company. Against the wishes of Coco, Sassy was given full reign over Rare Innovations skin care line, where she would sit in relative obscurity.

Finally full of being left out of what she considered her robbed success, Sassy’s final insult was when her budget was cut by Coco Pommel, the two having been at odds for years. Denied even the act of seeing Rarity to discuss a compromise, again by Coco, she decided to leave the company.

Not one to leave empty handed, she made her way to one of the massive factories that had been erected for the pharmaceutical and dermatological lines of products for Rare Innovations. Using what clearance she had left, she began to pillage the offices, determined to take secrets with her to another company, or better still, make her own empire.

She hadn’t counted on a silent alarm alerting The Phoenix, who quickly caught her in the act and chased her down catwalks in the chemical room. High above several vats of industrial solvents, chemicals and mixtures, Sassy rounded a corner only to run into the police closing in on her. Backing up and startled by The Phoenix, her heel caught in the grating and she was sent spiraling with a splash into a toxic concoction along with the only thing she had been able to steal successfully, a vial of Faustatrin.

Left for dead, the drainage system sent her into Horseshoe Bay where she arose coughing and hacking up vile fluid and inhaling noxious fumes. Only more startling to her being alive was that she had somehow been altered or mutated, by whatever she had gone through thanks to her dip. Able to manifest super strong tendrils that resembled her hair, she controlled them like an octopus with mere mental thoughts. As she came to realize it wasn’t part of her hair at all but coming from her spine, each retracting as need be or shooting forth at her will.

With Sassy’s career over, her looks gone and her last friend shutting her out sent her into a spiral of mental anguish. As quickly as she started to sob, the wails turned into giggling laughter, the sick humor of it all crashing down on her. But before her mind was completely shattered, she was visited by the right hand woman of Malcontent, Aria Blaze, with an offer…

Behind the Scenes

Mistress Mayhem came about when I decided I wanted to have a direct homage to the episode “Power Ponies”. The episode, despite being as juvenile as it was, was very close and dear to me, so naturally I wanted to take as many elements I loved from it and pay tribute to it. As inspired as she was by both Octopus and Joker, I felt for the most part I couldn’t use Tresemme as her original name.

Faced with what to do, I immediately started looking at ponies who hadn’t really been used much or to a degree I had felt satisfied with. Among them was Sassy Saddles from the Rarity episodes “Canterlot Boutique” and “ Rarity Investigates!" Sassy had started out as a lukewarm villain on the show, one of those that you seldom really remember because she was, quite frankly, very forgettable. She had quite a striking color palette though, so I felt the easiest way to bring my tribute to Mane-iac to life was to first use her as it’s base.

Being the first of my villains I made homages with, she didn’t really vary as much as I’d liked, as I was still working on my own for the most part and sketching ideas at my work place during breaks. I liked her skin tight suit, a classic for the villainess, but I also wanted a bit of sensuality to her. Sassy struck me as someone who would have an eye catching outfit no matter her level of sanity as if it were ingrained in her psyche as shattered as it was. So she ended up with a few see through or shear areas, that I quickly dropped. I didn’t want to seem too cliche, but eventually I came to the idea that her main objective was Mayhem, so I gave her the symbol for Anarchy on her chest with random arrows along her sleeves and legs. Coupled with her tentacle like hair, she came out just varied enough I felt it was obvious who she was supposed to be a tribute to and still remained rather Sassy.

Mistress Mayhem’s name came out of a random thought as I was writing the scene with her and Malcontent talking. He would be trying to slowly push her over the edge she was all but fallen into already, and by erasing the last bit of who she used to be in her head, her conversion would be complete.

I hope this was as entertaining to you as she was to try and write for!

Nice work on both her bio, and the behind-the-scenes info that led to her creation.

"Faustatrin," nice touch XD

Thanks! I like adding all sorts of easter eggs and homages in the work ;) Glad you liked it! :D

Nice. I'm really liking these bios. I also like what you did with her tendrils, and where they actually stem from. Sassy is a personal favorite character of mine, both from the show and your story. I've always liked villainous characters that have a backstory that makes you think: If things had been different, how would they have turned out?
Those are the kinds of characters I can't help but find myself rooting for for some strange reason. Right now she's an agent of chaos whose actions are being dictated by a mix of her own twisted desires and those of Malcontent. What lies ahead for her? I can't wait to see and I can't wait to see who you do next.
