Bubbles' Pokémon Journey - part 1 · 5:55am Feb 6th, 2018
(I have recently started a Pokémon Crystal play through on the 3DS virtual console, this is a retelling of this adventure
Hi there Pokémon fan!
My name's Bubbles! I'm just a simple girl from New Bark Town and I'm embarking on my very own Pokémon journey!
It all started when Professor Elm asked me to run an errand for him. Poor guy only has a single assistant so the two of them are always busy with their research. He wanted me to go see his friend, Mr. Pokémon (Who names themselves that?! Seriously?) wbout some discovery or other. Since Mr. Pokémon lives beyond Cherrygrove City I had to have a Pokémon with me so he allowed me to pick one!
I had already thought long and hard about who I would choose when my chance to get my first Pokémon from the professor would arise, so I picked Totodile! I named him Bitey because he likes to gnaw on stuff he likes. There was some rude red haired boy lurking about the lab but I mostly ignored him... this would later prove to be a mistake I guess.
with Bitey in tow I made it across the land toward Mr. Pokémon's house! I managed to get a couple berries on the way and some battle. There's a lot of Pidgeys and Rattatas around, and not that many Sentret (and Hoothoot only comes out at night). I'm wondering if the Rattatas are starving the Sentrets out? That'd be bad.
Once I made it to Mr. Pokémon's house you won't believe who I met there: Professor Oak! I couldn't believe it! I was so star struck I barely said a word when he just outright handed me one of his famous Pokédexes. So now I had a Pokédex of my own, and I had that mysterious egg that Mr. Pokémon wanted me to bring to Professor Elm (I almost completely forgot about that) and the Professor actually called me up on my PokéGear telling me to come back right away. What a coincidence! Fought my way back to Cherrygrove City, stopped to heal Bitey and was about to leave town when the rude red head showed up to challenge me to a battle! He had a Chikorita with him that tried so hard to look vicious and dangerous, but those things are just way too cute. Bitey made short work of it really (Bitey was getting pretty strong by this point). He told me his name was Edge (*giggles*) and that he was gonna become the best Pokémon Trainer around.
Yeah right. That won't happen because the best trainer is going to be ME!
So I made it back to New Bark Town and it turned out that Edge actually stole that Chikorita from Professor Elm! What a jerk! Now I want to find him and beat him up to teach him a lesson. The Professor doesn't seem to mind me wanting to go after Edge. He was pretty happy I got the egg for him, said he would call me if anything came up of his study of it and encouraged me to take on the Gym challenge! His assistant even gave me some PokéBalls as I was heading out.
One quick visit to mom to tell her to manage my bank account and I was off! Can you believe some dweeb tried to teach me how to catch Pokémon? Do I look that helpless buddy?
So I went off on my way, but before I headed to my first gym challenge I wanted to catch a new member for my team! I had heard that Phanpy could be found on Route 46 just outside of town, only in the morning, and figured that would be a good team member. In the meantime, sincei t was so late in the day, I decided to catch another Pokémon to help with that capture since Bitey was getting too strong and would surely knock out a Phanpy in one hit. I ended up encountering and catching a female Spinarak I named Naria and brought her with me the next morning to try and catch a Phanpy!
Turns out those little buggers are not only rare, but they're total scaredy meowths! They jump out to battle you but the moment you fight back they run off! I exhausted all my Pokéballs just trying to catch one of them.
In the end I grew fond of Naria and decided I would just stick with her for the moment. I had enough of Phanpy hunting. Maybe I can try to catch a Donphan later instead? On my way to Violet City I had some of my first proper Pokémon battles! I beat up a bunch of bug catchers, including this kid named Wade who was willing to hook me up with some berries if he ever found any! I thought it was a good deal so we exchanged numbers. I tried the Dark Cave but it was too dark and filled with Geodudes and stuff, so nothing all that interesting. Still, in anticipation of me getting the Flash HM I caught a male Bellsprout I named Twig, just so he could use it later on. I know I need the Gym Badge from Violet City's gym leader before I can use Flash outside of battle, so that'll be my next goal.
So right now I've just gotten into Violet City! What will happen next on my Pokémon journey? Who will join Bitey and Naria on my team? Who knows!
