Bubbles' Pokémon Journey - part 3

(I have recently started a Pokémon Crystal play through on the 3DS virtual console, this is a retelling of thas adventure)

Hi there Pokémon fan! It's your pal Bubbles again!

Last time I had just DEMOLISHED that fool Falkner and got my first official badge! As if there was any doubt? And I was considering adding a new member to my team, and I was stuck with an egg to hatch. I kept thinking about those Phanpy and I decided I really wanted one after all.

But to catch one I was gonna need to be smart about it! At first I caught a Hoppip and asked around to see if it learned Sleeppowder early... turns out that only happens in other regions, here it takes a while. Weird. But then I encountered an Ekans with the move Wrap! That was just what I needed. I caught it (named him Slick) and then I took the long walk all the way back to Route 46!

I got a call from Wade again I think about berries... and then later a call about how he missed catching a Pidgey... seesh. Thanks for the berries but I don't need the minutae of your life dude.

I took a little detour to get hit all the bery trees, took some time to level up Slick a bit, and wait until morning before going back on the hunt for Phanpy. It took me so long that the egg hatched! It turned out to be a Togepi! Obviously I named him Eggbert. I mean, what else was I supposed to name that little guy? So I went and showed Professor Elm while I was in the area. He was pretty impressed and really excited about it. You'd think Pokémon researchers would know which Pokémon hatch from eggs or not... I got an Everstone out of the deal. Not sure what I'll do with it but it's nifty to have a free item.

Finally it was morning and it was time for me to go on the hunt! It took SO long to encounter a single Phanpy! I was getting desperate! And FINALLY he showed up! Oh how happy I was! I grabbed him with Wrap so he wouldn't escape and a few turns later I chucked a Pokéball! Got it on my first try!

Phanpy joins the team! It felt like such a great moment that I named him Miracle, because it was a miracle it happened at all!

With that taken care of business I headed back to Violet City and then south towards Union Cave! I battled some fishermen on the way and leveled up Miracle and even the Togepi in the tall grass. After some battles my mom called me to tell me she bought me an item with my money, that item turned out to be a Super Potion, pretty nifty since I can't find those in stores around here. Also Wade started to bug me (get it) about the Bug Catching Contest. Called me like three times to tell me about it. Wade, I'm not even anywhere near Goldenrod City! I can't go participate because of that stupid tree Pokémon blocking the way.

As I approached the Pokémon Center near Union Cave some sketchy dude tried to sell me a Slowpoke tail for a million pokéyen! Gross and totally weird. I declined and rudely told me to scram. What a chump. I took a little rest, battled a Bird Keeper who could totally have beaten Falkner, and I went into Union Cave!

I expected it to be dark in there and brought Twig with me for no reason. Oh well. Again I did some training with my new team members (Eggbert learned Metronome! His first Metronome was Mach Punch!) and Miracle quickly proved himself to be able to take hits like a champ! He's gonna be the rock solid wall of my team for sure! I decided to use my brand new TM and teach the little guy Mud Slap so he could have some STAB bonus and utility. Plus, I figured the team could use the variety in types.

Union Cave has some weird Firebreather clown guys with in there and that one Pokémaniac with just a Slowpoke (great job collector) and it was actually longer than I expected. But I did find the TM for Swift in the basement! If I keep Eggbert around I might give it to him once he evolves.

and finally I finished my little trip through the cave and came out near Azalea town! I took down one last hiker, grabbed a berry and headed for the Pokémon Center for a little break!

Let's see what kind of adventures I can have around here! And maybe I'll add someone to my team?
