This is how I imagine most SMA readers are within 10 seconds of reading.
I often find myself a victim of the Dunning-Kruger effect. Yet strangely Mary sues aspire to be me...

So what, you think we'll react that way when she bites her lip, or at the sight of the acronym BYF? Because that's how much I could read in 10 seconds and I'm a pretty fast reader.

:3 maybe... The beginning is so serious... That all went away as soon as Chapter 1 dropped.
This is honestly how I actually imagine things; With um, animated gif images.

Merlos and I when we discuss the chapter.

"Oh we are DEFINATELY putting that in."
I never got the impression that Merlos the Mad conformed to any sort of D&D rules...
for one thing, he's brewing potions without expending experience levels!

We discussed how to handle levels and what system to go by.
I suggested having everyone in different systems. that each character came from a different system, but this got scratched because the more we discussed what was to happen, the more we realized locking them down in spells per day and class limitations might interfere with the story.
We write with a "ish" in mind. Specifically where each character sits as far as Levels and experience go. To go forward with some kind of structure to the story we had to establish ground rules and to make things go a certain way to keep everyone "balanced."
In all honestly, we fall back on Pathfinder for magic and source material a lot since its one we're both pretty familiar with and have played together on. We didn't want to use any set or known worlds that they were in since we didn't want people to sperg and fight over it... Oh and we wanted to be flexible and use more popculture refs in the story, Like Hadleys Hope being from Alien, for example.
When we started the story, we set levels for both protagonists and brought up what would be in the realm of possibilities.
When we redo the core 10 chapters, I'll be putting in level up blocks so people have an idea whos been cashing in their experience (Yes, I'm that kind of DM.)
We also have a standing rule about not letting our characters become mary/gary sues. We can get close, even fondle it via potions/magic, but nothing that would cross over into MS territory.
This next chapter is going to take a lot from me cause I get to funnel something deeply personal that I enjoy...
BARD BATTLES!

"ish" is the best system ♥
