So how about dat Luna episode? I thought it was pretty great, and my opinion of it even improved on my second viewing. Luna's characterisation made sense, had depth, and didn't screw over my fanfic (because it only has two scenes with Luna so far, and both of them feature her talking to Celestia in private, so S1E2!Luna applies).

And to be honest, I don't think it necessarily messed up as many other fanfics as we were expecting it to. With a little clever arguing and roundabout logic, you can probably still make most of the best Luna fics work. But I digress. In honour of Lunar Eclipsed, let's have a look at my favourite Luna fics:

Half the Day is Night by Augiedog
Luna as an unpopular royal (yay) who is stuck in her ancient ways (yay) and needs the help of the mane 6 (yay) and Celly to get ponies to like her. It's written as if it could be a series of actual episodes, if FIM were to do that sorta thing. My favourite part of this fic is the way Luna gradually regains her power. Definitely still worth a read.

Luna's Goodwill Tour by WTFHIW
This is an interesting case - FIM reimagined with a more mature atmosphere that is actually "a more mature atmosphere", rather than a grimdark one. The Luna here is probably a little more "with-it" than canon Luna, but it's still a damn fine fic. It's incomplete though, and I don't see it being finished at all ever, especially not after this last episode.

Paradise by Slywit
Paradise still works because it's happening a while before Celly and Woona even become princesses, and because translation convention applies if you think they should be speaking old English and because Paradise is amazing.

To be perfectly honest, I've only ever read Luna vs the Microwave, and I guess that kinda works because it's mostly about how Luna's unaccustomed to the modern world. People have been saying that it got Luna right though, so I guess that's nice and maybe I'll read the whole thing eventually.

I miss the following yourself inception bit, went great with that Fluttershy hyperventilating from anxiety of being watched by all those eyes from Hurricane Fluttershy.

Anyways, nice top favs here. Not sure how many use Goodwill's formating in Gdocs but got curious and wanted to line up two stories together to see if I could spot whether that author really did partake in the recent Trixie flash fiction on EQD. Likely not, but it'd be a joy to know if he was still out there enjoying and dishing out more pony more stories.
