Theories Theories #1

So, got some ideas that have been rolling around in my head for a while. Theories, I guess you would call them.

Sometimes I put my theories into stories, base that story on that idea, but here in this blog and many more to come. I'm gonna be straightforward and just speak my mind about them.

Here's the first: How old are the mane six?

Well, everyone who's said they're in their 30's or 20's, you're wrong, sorry to break it to you.

Our loved characters are actually not adults, as shown in the Equestria Girls series. They are teenagers. In the first movie, Twilight looks in their yearbook showing an image of the girls (minus Twilight) which Applejack calls the Freshman Fair. Where their eyes are much bigger, and their bodies are smaller, indicating they were much younger. Since they were all together at that Freshman Fair, they are all freshman. Meaning they are all very close in age.

Obviously, that was in a time before Twilight arrived. They could, in the first movie, be Sophomore's or Juniors. I'm not going to say seniors, because now in our fourth EQG Movie, they would've graduated at that point.

I'm going to say they are sophomore's, why? They talked as if the time they were friends not long ago, the time they all stopped being friends was in a short amount of time. Making them sophomores.

Sophomores in High School, are usually the ages of 14-16. (depending on if they were held back a grade or skipped a grade.)

The estimate, would be that the mane six are all about 15 or 16, Fluttershy most likely being 16 due to what she said in Season 1, "I'm a year older than you." To Pinkie Pie.

Now, how does the EQG world relate to the pony world? Why is it that in the EQG world, they're teenagers, and in Equestria, they are adults.

Many others have said that the portal messes with time, age, not just appearance. That's not the case.

In fact, the human characters are the same age as they are in Equestria. But Ink, how come they're adults then? That doesn't make sense!

Actually it does. In the movie it shows that Twilight doesn't know what a high school is. In Equestria, they seem to only have different kinds of schools for different races, flight school for pegasi, magic school for unicorns. Regular school, with all ponies. Such as the school in Ponyville.

But they don't seem to go beyond that school. Why? Because the age they are considered adults is different than our world.

Back in the 1800's and before, there was less schooling because we didn't understand the world as much. People back then were done with school at ages as low as 10.

In some certain time periods, women were supposed to be married and bare children at age 13.

I believe the Equestrian world is somewhat like this, of course not forcing marriage and children, but having less schooling, and being considered an adult at a younger age.

They are not as advanced as us now. They don't have phones, computers. They have electricity. It seems that Equestria is an odd but wonderful mixture of modern and medieval. So it makes sense that adults would be younger.

So we have come to the conclusion that the mane six are teenagers. All 16 and 15, but how old specifically are they?

We can assume that Fluttershy is older because of her line. She is 16, Twilight's maturity, knowledge, and such, also makes her 16. Rarity owns a business, which definitely took some time, so 16.

Now, Rainbow, Pinkie, and Applejack.

Rainbow has a lot of energy, she can be rather immature, does some childish acts. (Spitballs at Twilight. Refuses to read. etc.) We can assume she is younger, but ah, not smart enough to skip a grade. She would be 15.

Pinkie is very immature, childish and silly. Of course that is her character traits, and she can also be very compassionate. But sometimes her childish acts and love of candy. (Younger children have higher tolerance for candy which is why they can never have enough.) she is definitely younger. She could have very well skipped a grade when she was much younger. I assume she is 14.

Applejack, tough, family loving, strong. We would assume she is 16, but because she grew up on a farm, that could very well make her very mature for her age. She has matched strength with Rainbow, and if AJ was older, she would have a bit of an advantage. Applejack is 15.

So, basically, if you didn't want to read through all that:

Twi: 16

Shy: 16

Rares: 16

Dash: 15

AJ: 15
