I know it's a couple of days late, but here it is: a post celebrating the fact that I haven't given up on this story in a whole year. 8D
On September 16, 2016, I started posting this story, and its gone on to become the most popular story I've ever written. I guess I finally lucked into a subject that people actually wanted to read about instead of my usual track record of... y'know... NOT doing that thing.
The new chapter is in progress, and I'm feeling pretty good about it so far, so rest assured that you won't be waiting another 2 months for an update. In fact, I'm going to do everything in my power to have this story done before Thanksgiving... since I'll be slaving away in retail for the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas. T-T
I've tried this before, and I highly doubt that it's going to get any kind of traction this time around, but I thought it might be fun anyway: in celebration of Consanguinity's first birthday, I invite you, gentle readers, to ask questions of me. Have questions about the story? Have questions about things IN the story? Have questions about me, or my other works? Ask, and I'll answer as best as I can.
I've had a really good time writing this story. It's given me a lot of confidence as far as my writing goes, and that alone has made it worth the write. I hope that any of my readers who are also writers will take heart and continue writing, no matter if you're popular or not -- the story itself is your reward, and you should do everything in your power to make certain you tell it the way you want to.

My question is that I still want to know why Skyla didn't sense Celestia's presence in the kitchen that one time.
Then again, I haven't seen her use that ability much anymore.

Warning: possible spoilers..? I dunno, I guess it's more of a glance behind the curtain to a sort of "bonus knowledge" about Skyla's ability, which may end up making things a little easier to figure out as the story heads towards its conclusion, but I guess they're not spoilers, strictly speaking... eh, I'll black it out, just in case.
Skyla's "aura sight" ability has always been something of a mystery, even to me. I don't always know exactly where a character's power or development is going to go when I start a story -- a general idea, yes, but rarely a completely defined point -- so when stuff like that comes out, I tend to bend the story around it and make it as believable a part of it as I can.
The best way I can describe it is that it is an ability that Skyla can't fully control yet. What she sees... well, it's the innate power of a pony's harmony, or, in the case of Queen Cadence, her innate chaos or discord. Ponies with enough of either inside them will become obvious to her sight, but since she can't control who or what she sees yet, she tends to let her emotions guide what she sees. For instance, when she left Twilight's questioning she didn't want to be alone, so she started looking for Flurry's aura without even realizing she was doing it; conversely, her thoughts were turned inward when she was going to the kitchen, so she didn't see Celestia's aura. In time, she'll learn to control whose aura she sees and when, and she'll even become powerful enough to see the tiniest bit of harmony or chaos in a pony -- but for right now, she's a filly with emotional issues who can see things others can't, and she's not quite to the right spot in her character development to figure it out.
I'm kind of playing fast and loose with the terminology of MLP canon by blurring the line between magic and harmony/chaos, but I like it better this way. XD
And don't worry, the "aura sight" comes back -- there's a reason that it's in here!

Now see, the interesting thing is that there's no guarantee that Skyla would even know what a changeling was. She comes from a totally alternate timeline in which the changelings may never have come to be, or, if they DID come to be, they could be completely different.
Chances are that Skyla would be wary around him for a good while, but she'd come around. He won't be in the story, but I'm sure they'd get along just fine. :3

You're making me think of a world where Chrysalis is actually the good guy. I can see her changlings even now, infiltrating the empire and the like, trying to find a way to bring about harmony. After all in a world like Skyla's, I don't foresee much 'love' being passed around, which would make it hard for them to feed.
It's an interesting thing to think about. Could the events of this world change Chrysalis so much that she's a kind, loving soul? The kind that the Cadance we know is?
That aside, I have one other question, or questions perhaps.
Basically this takes place a few years after where we are right? I mean for Flurry to be talking as she is, which brings me to my other question:
Any of the other Mane 6 get hitched and have any kids? I can imagine Big Mac might have married SugerBelle by now.

Yes, this story takes place a little bit in the future from where I stopped watching the show, i.e. mid season 6. Flurry is 7 years old in Seven Years and Consanguinity.
As far as other characters and ships go... well, I've honestly never thought about it, at least as far as this story goes. I have other stories in which I ship other ponies, but I haven't done anything with anypony new in a very long time. Heck, the last shipping story I actually wrote on was a self-indulgent OC x Sunset Shimmer fic that I posted on my deviantArt, so that should tell you what characters I still think of as far as shipping. XD
In short, I haven't built the world outside the scope of the story, so I can't really answer your question -- and I can't even really offer you an opinion because my ships are based in canon that's fairly old.
One thing that is making me speculate: The pony spy that was hit by AUCadence's lightning. A pony that was sent from the Canterlot Kingdom to the Crystal Empire, probably someone that AUTwilight trusted. I have a feeling that Skyla will meet the pony again in this universe and freak out. Is the pony by any means a certain Rainbow Coloured Pegasus?

Actually, I never intended to have her know ANY of the main characters in the show besides the ones already specified. I'm playing very strictly with the idea that such a huge change in the timeline can cause people (or ponies) to simply not exist in that particular reality, and none of the other Mane 6 exist in Skyla's timeline. It's not something I felt like getting into in the story, but Rainbow, Pinkie, AJ, Rarity, Fluttershy -- they don't really exist in her timeline. There are ponies sort of like them (i.e. the old trope where it's Firefly instead of Rainbow Dash, etc.) but that's about as close as it gets.
