dragon ball z syndrome · 7:46pm Sep 15th, 2017
so something I'm afraid of doing with my fic is falling into dragon ball z's power scaling problem, with my characters getting so powerful that in order for me to challenge them I have to introduce a new enemy more powerful than the last and such. so I think it's about time for me to put in an official power ceiling. right now I'm thinking a demigod such as blueblood would be as strong as Almight, and a god would be roughly as strong as hagoromo, and just leave the power ceiling there with a few neutral exceptions such as Bill and Faust.
The thing with that is dragon ball only uses enemies at a certain power level which is slightly above what the heroes can face but while you deal with literal magic there's so many more opportunities to power up. For example freza stayed about the same power for his entire life until his resurrection he never trained.
But you're dealing with a world with a lot of gods at least some of them must be training in case of another nightmare moon situation and with magic they could easily be making enchanted items to bolster their power. In almost all fantasy the bad guy has a source of power or an item that makes them more powerful just by being near it be it a conduit for their power or another powerful being they trapped and are feeding off of. and you actually have the key to extra power in your story the magic nodes (I honestly can't remember the name if that isn't right) some one could make an artificial one in a staff or object and make it small enough for the pressure to build allowing for much more destructive capabilities.
