Commissions · 8:46pm Jul 20th, 2017
I'm contemplating opening some writing commissions. I mean, not even just for MLP, but for a lot of different fandoms. I'm just not entirely sure if anyone would be remotely interested in it. Especially with two incomplete works at the moment. Still, if there's the possibility of bringing in some extra money to get my tablet screen fixed, gotta try everything I can, I suppose.
Do you know anyone who does commissions who you could ask for advice?

No one I know of who does writing commissions. Just people who do art commissions. And I don't think those are the same thing...
4607581 No, me neither.
I think writing feels much more like something one could do themselves, where art can be more of a can do it/can't do it thing.
So, even if I'd never written fan fiction before, I think I'd be more inclined to give that a go myself rather than commissioning someone, whereas for art I'd be much more likely to as I know I can't draw.
But maybe that's just me?
Most of the writing commissions I've seen have been clop, especially for more unusual fetishes.

Someone is doing writing commission now. I just checked my feed and someone said they were doing commissions. It didn't look like art commissions either. The sheer coincidence...
I don't know. People who don't believe they can write very well probably prefer paying someone else to write something for them. Personally, I would have paid someone else had I not taken the path that led to me writing a couple hundred fanfics on my own. If I hadn't started writing, I would be willing to pay someone. Or, conversely, if I like someone's writing style and want to support them, I'm likely to commission them, but I think that has more to do with my appreciation of different styles.
4608576 Likewise, I remembered that Sunny Skies has started doing them; she's really nice, so I'm sure she'd be happy to offer advice. But I think that's only recently, so I don't know if anyone's actually commissioned her yet.
Yeah I guess in principle it's no different to artwork. I don't know; I think writing is something you could probably have a decent crack at if you'd read enough, at least to get quite a lot of the basics right. Whereas I think one could be an art critic for life and have that have no correlation on whether you could draw/paint/sculpt or not.

Ooh! Thanks for the heads up! I can go and ask for a little bit of advice, maybe get pricing tips (which is where I'm actually stumped).
True... I feel like... writing is something that, like art, must be done constantly in order to improve, but unlike art, cannot be forgotten as quickly. If you don't draw for a long period of time after drawing for years, it's not really gonna be a good piece because you haven't kept up with it. Whereas writing is something that stays with you and is further ingrained. Maybe it's a language thing.
4609280 That sounds a good plan
With regard to skills fading over time, I simply couldn't comment either way.
