I May have Missed Opening Night · 8:38pm Jul 14th, 2017
But I've seen more than enough to say that this is more than what the critics are already saying. The perfect swan song to a great trilogy, and they get away with every bit of homages to the original series.
Set two years after "Dawn," the film has a grim tone to it. Ceasar not only has to fight a renegade band of humans and apes that defected from him (labeled as "donkeys" hint, hint), but also his own demons. Those who have seen the final season of Samurai Jack (and I'm sure there are many) will recognize that right away. All the while, rumors spread that the virus has mutated again, making humanity feral (chief among them is Nova).
It does get very heavy for a prolonged period of time, yet I'm surprised the kids that were there didn't cry.
Is it worth the watch? Yes. Definitely.
