Manifest Destiny has, after about 4 years, finally reached 1000 views.
In a way this is pretty important. 1000 views. Nice. I sat at my laptop when I saw that it had reached about 998 and waited for it to tick over. and when it did I felt pretty stoked for a few minutes. I was going to make this blog and it would be a big old party. However, when I looked at the statistics and thought it over I realized that this story reaching 1000 views really doesn't mean that much. Let me explain.
So, 1000 people have read the first page. of those 1000 they dropped to 650 by chapter 2, and eventually leveled out to around 400 views per chapter. that's not bad, 2 in 5 people retention rate. Then I took a year off. And now that 400 people retention rate has dropped to about 100, and that's being generous.
See, how many people have read the first word matters to me far less than how many people have read the last one, and I've alienated a lot of my previous audience. So to correct this I have a announcement to make about how the story is going forward.
Starting from the chapter that I have posted today, 'Manifest Destiny' will be updated on the first Saturday of every month. In this way I have a schedule to keep that isn't flexible (flexible here meaning ignorable) and you have something concrete to look forward to. I think that the main thing that lost me readers was the fact that I updated so haphazardly , and this I hope will correct that. if you happen to be one of the old guard of readers who haven't read the last 3 or so chapters and are reading this I hope that this will restore a degree of trust in me and perhaps re-earn your stewardship.
At this point I must thank the person who has made this recent return to normal service possible, my new editor DarthVendar. Their support and prompt and professional editing has given me above all else the motivation to write because I have the knowledge that what I write will go up. Further, they are a great source of ideas and critique.
At any rate, I have to think up something for the next big milestone, one that I care much much more about. Until then thank you for reading.

I've only been reading this story for the past couple months but I'll read every chapter because this deserves to be one of my all-time faves
