Movie trailer spoilers included, but not really the ones you are going to expect.

Okay, if you clicked this open you are going to get the spoilers, and they are not about Edgy McDarkicorn, I am leaving her out of this (although I am a little dismayed that someone let their son put his edgy OC in the movie).

I am here to talk about weapons. Swords. Cannons. Tridents.

Swords have been around on Earth since about 1600bc. We have spent over three-thousand years honing the blade to perfection. In that time countless people have been cut down, butchered, hacked, maimed... killed. Three-thousand years of work to reach the designs of blades that the show displayed our pirate friends using. That is a lot of bloody world-history.

So then, given that we have seen that swords of this design are common enough for pirates to enjoy their use, why don't we see any of the bad guys in the show using them? Why didn't Sombra equip his army with actual weapons? Why didn't they even have spears (a significantly older weapon, and one that at the very least was also a tool)?

If as many people at Hasbro fact-checked their plots as got their arses out of shape over Derpy's name, the show/movie would have the most amazingly perfect plots. Wait, was that a pun? I don't even know anymore...

Unless we see otherwise in the show, I'm putting the movie in the same category as EqG and the comics: steal whatever bits are interesting for stories, and ignore the rest as nonsensical.

The way I see it, it's simple:
It's a theatrical movie, so it can afford to be a bit more violent than the show.

I'll laugh if when the movie actually comes out, you declare her the best villain from the entire franchise.

I'd say it already does.

I shall reserve my judgement, until i have actually seen the movie; this trailer has sufficiently piqued my curiosity, that i do intend to go see it now.

Though i find myself concerned, that from the trailer alone, you have preemptively condemned the antagonist as some kids "edgy OC."

As for tech and weaponry in Equestria, seriously, MLP: FIM has never had a consistent tech level in it's setting.

Considering the villain has a shattered horn, yeah I would definitely say they are letting the plot be a little more brutal than usual.

The drab brown village looks like something out of a source engine pony animation. They are popular, might be a deliberate refrence.

The fact that we see Ponyville folk in Canterlot is wierd. Did Ponyville and Canterlot Expand to merge? Wierd but I could see them going for it. Or just sell us Equestria as a city-state to have evrypony in one place. I like that they are also showing as much of the background ponies we live into this but the bird pirates ...meh.

Tempest's cronies and all the diffrent creatures remind me of Lilo and Stitch for some reason. I think it's the colour palette.
